Part 4 of My Story
We slowly began to walk forward into the darkness. Piriot was never one to take things for face value, he was too smart for that. He had to always find an ulterior motive for everything that was done. I knew what we were about to find in Karitta wasn't going to be nice...
Light was breaking on the horizon as we arrived. Karitta was a peaceful place. Usually it has animals climbing up and down the trees that dot the outskirts but it also holds a dark shadow over it. It's on the border between between the two halves, thus making it susceptible to evil spirits more so than anywhere else. Piriots pack of Fangarr were charged with keeping the spirits the other side of the town. The day that Piriot and I visited was a cold wintery day. Piriot being a spirit couldn't feel the cold but he knew that I was cold.
"So what do you expect to find here Piriot? Answers for your death?" I said as my teeth chattered.
"Not really Niran, I don't wish to know the answers to my questions. They would cause me more pain and anguish" he said as he trudged slowly into the town square.
Usually Karitta was bustling but today there was not a single person around. The buildings were empty and there were no signs of life anywhere. Had the evil spirits finally take hold of Karitta? Had Piriots pack fallen after all these years.
"Piriot...where is your pack? I cannot see anyone anywhere" I said quietly.
Piriot sniffed the air and got down on his haunches, "I can smell something Niran, be prepared to fight..." he said in a deep voice baring his fangs.
I drew my staff and held it defensively expecting something to attack at any given moment. I heard a faint noise on the wind come from my right. I scanned my eyes in that direction but couldn't see anything.
"Piriot...to the right..."I said very quietly and cautiously.
He span right and in an instant he dashed forward, I got flung off his back and hit the ground hard almost passing out.
Piriot began growling loudly and I could hear his rage boiling inside of him, I knew he was fighting something but I was still groggy from the fall and couldn't make out what was going on. I used my staff to help me get to my feet slowly.
As my senses began to come to, I could make out the shape of what Piriot was fighting. It was another Fangarr, one of smaller stature then him and appeared to be female.
My heart sank as I immediately understood the situation. Piriot was fighting his pack mate, Unissa.
I didn't interfere, this was a matter of pack and pack only and I knew when to not step in, all I could do was watch from the sideline. It was hard for me because I could see the hurt in his eyes as his spectral claws dug into her flesh and tore it away. Unissas body was possessed by an evil spirit, it would force her broken body to fight until there was nothing left of it. Every slash of Piriots claws made him howl in agony, it was almost as if he was rending his own flesh from his body. I watched as Unissa slumped to the ground before running over and interfering.
"Piriot I cannot allow you to consume her...let me send the body on to the other side. I need to do this if you want her to find eternal rest" I screamed as I stood in between him and broken bloody heap.
