Re: The Honey Browser App Extension Scam
OK, there is a scam going around about a browser app extension called honey. You can see the orange logo in the thumbnail of the video above if you want it to jog your memory. So what it supposedly did was if you added this extension for free, it would scour the Internet for coupons that you could use. I downloaded it and tried it but I found out that on the website I bought from none of the coupons ever ended up working so I deleted it.
Macdoesit, the Creator above, heavily promoted honey as a sponsor at his peak but what had happened is that allegedly honey is kind of like a virus that you invite onto your browser and what it does is it deletes all of the affiliate links that give the content creator credit for bringing people onto the sponsor‘s website. So like if A Content creator is sponsored by Zara and they give you a coupon for 10% off if you click the link in the description. When you do that it has an affiliate link that tells you that that Content creator sent to the customer there and that Content creator will get credit for sending dollars towards the sponsor, and the content creator can get more sponsorships because they have shown they actually drive money towards the sponsor.
Unfortunately, if the customer has the honey extension, none of those affiliate links will actually work, allegedly. Honey would delete the affiliate links, and the Content creator wouldn’t get credit for sending any customers towards the sponsor. 
Allegedly, it’s kind of like a virus that the Content creator encourages customers to put on their browser and it just often works in the background and irregardless of whether it saves the customer any money, it will delete all affiliate links for any link. The customer clicks on anywhere on the Internet.
What is does in the case of Macdoesit and many other people is that once they have encouraged all of their user base that is likely to click on affiliate links in videos from sponsors, once his viewers have done that with the honey app, none of his future sponsorships Will seem like he has sent any customers towards the sponsor. As long as his viewers still have that honey browser extension on (and not deleted), none of his future sponsors will see any customer growth, and Mac theorizes that it’s for this reason that after that, very few of his sponsors actually stuck around because all of his viewers have the honey extension, which made it seem like none of them actually clicked the link in the description, even if they did.
Therefore, you might want to consider deleting your honey browser extension and checking what extensions you have download on your browser because it might be fucking shit up for other content creators and, if you’re anything like me, it might not actually be saving you much money anymore.
