HoneyHunters: Day 7

Ryan’s Picks:

In just a few weeks I will be heading back to my home away from home in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Even though I am beyond excited to return to my team, my friends, and my life back at Harvard, I never can seem to leave sunny Southern California behind.  That’s why I made today’s Honey hunt all about that california swag.  Cafepress.com came through for me huge today.  I found this awesome poster of Manhattan Beach to remind me of home and even had enough to score this sweet California flag iPhone 5 case.   Originally, my cart cost $37 but Honey cut another $5.55 off the final price.  That makes for a total savings of $43.20!

Although it is definitely a little hard to swallow, my colleague and competitor Caroline has been out-saving me for a few days now.  In an effort to drown my sorrows and hope for better savings in the future, I’ve decided to treat myself to this elegant full bottle wine glass for $19.95 from baronbob.com.  It says. “I’m classy and still going to get drunk.”  Happy hunting!

‘Back to school shopping’ is code word for think of excuses to try and get your parents to get stuff you want. I will shamelessly pull out the “mine are falling apart” or “my roommate lost them” or anything under the sun to try and convince my parents to buy me those shoes I am in love with or that cute but probably unnecessary new book bag. I have found my prize and now all I need is a worthy excuse, and I think Honey has given it to me. These to-die-for booties are available at Express for only $36.07. Honey saved me an awesome $21.88 that I have put towards my total Honey savings to bring it to a whopping $83.69 over 7 days.

With my accumulating Honey savings, I decided to get something that many could use. I stumbled upon this 23” long neon crocodile planter that will sure get a good response out of my parents, family, friends and neighbors. HoneyHunters Day 6

After 3 years of living in my back pocket, my tattered brown leather wallet finally met its end last week.  It’s not much of a surprise, really.  My old wallet was right there with me through the best of times and the worst of times-- those awesome nights out when it was full and those terrible mornings after when it’d be completely empty.  Although a faithful financial companion, my wallet wasn’t exactly perfect, it did not allow me to use my RFID-enabled school ID to get into locked doors.  I would have to take it all the way out and then put it back once I got inside-- a huge pain with gloves on in the cold of winter back in Cambridge, Massachusetts.   Today I Honey hunted for a new wallet from wilsonsleather.com with my $31.41 in total savings.  After only a minute or two, I came across the perfect fit for me, the Rustler front pocket leather wallet, in my favorite shade of brown at 25% off retail, or $18.75!

With today’s savings, my total is at $37.65 so far.  I decided that that money should go to something that will definitely get a lot of use back at school.  After looking around the web a bit for inspiration, I settled on this Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter for my Macbook Air from monoprice.com.  At a retail price of $10.99, I can get two of them just in case anything should happen to one of them.  That way, nothing can get between me and my Netflix viewing on my big screen.

Day 6 of Honey Hunting is inspired by my generation. We try to portray a persona of days past (think high-waisted jeans, instagram filters and oversized sunglasses) and yet can’t function without modern gift of technology. The generation on the verge of adulthood is one plagued by an identity crisis, torn between the fads of the past and the rapidly evolving technological present. Products just as much as people have attempted to bridge that gap and today’s Honey Hunting pays homage to that.

HoneyHunters: Day 4

Caroline’s picks: Geekin’ Out

Signs that you’re a geek: you know every character in Game of Thrones by their name and house sigil, you can spot the Vulcan hand signal from a mile away, you woke up on your eleventh birthday anticipating the arrival of your Hogwarts acceptance letter, you have a survival plan for a zombie apocalypse. Whether none of these, some of these or dear god, all of these apply to you, rest-assured they we all have a little bit of geek inside of us. So to pay homage to my inner geek, I decided to theme today’s honey hunting around it.

    My first item is one of the most classic geek accessories, the watch. With it’s functional and fashion aspects, this watch is a winner. Honey helped me get this “All the Time” Watch from Urban Outfitters for only $16.70 (retail price: $28.00). Because Honey helped me save big time and time again, I decided to go to ultimate geek status with my next purchase, a yoda backpack (avaliable at thinkgeek.com for $39.99). Who doesn’t want a little green man great with inspirational one-liners hanging on there back all the time? It’s a geek gold mine.

Ryan’s picks: Getting Crafty with Clutter

I set out on yet another Honey hunt with my new apartment in mind.  I will be the first one to admit that I am a bit organizationally challenged.  That is, I have the potential to be a pretty huge slob if I don’t stay on top of my clutter.  With this thought in mind, I set out to find some aesthetically pleasing ways to keep my space clutter free. Barnesandnoble.com had the perfect solution.  For a retail price of $9.95, I put the invisible metal bookshelf into my cart and ended up saving $1.78 in the end using Honey.

With another $1.78 saved, Honey has accrued me an additional $25.41 in just 4 days of Honey hunting!  I have decided to put some of that money towards one of my favorite pastimes-- drinking coffee.  Harvard has a system where you can leave your own mug in the dining halls where it can be cleaned and reused so as to cut down on water and disposable cup usage.  I’m all for saving the environment, but not when it means that every week some kid is stealing my mug.  In an effort to keep myself caffeinated without having to keep replacing stolen mugs, I got this camera lens coffee mug for $14.99.  Just try to tell me you have the same one. I dare you.

HoneyHunters: Day 3

Ryan’s Picks: Sport of Champions

Not long from now, my favorite week of the year begins-- and Honey just made it that much better.  Every summer, my water polo teammates and I rent a house on the beach in Newport Beach, CA to celebrate our last week of summer before heading back east. We bond as a team, reinforce a few collegiate athlete stereotypes, and occasionally workout.  A huge facet of our pre-preseason bonding is the sport of champions.  No, it’s not water polo, but our own BP, or “beverage pong”  tournament in which teams of two pick a team name and theme and spend the week trying to preserve their win/loss record.  Today I honey hunted for a low-cost costume idea that nobody will forget-- no matter how many beverages our team might consume.  At urbanoutfitters.com, I came across this gem-- a mullet-on-the-go wig for $20 after shipping and taxes.  With just one click of the “Find Savings” button, Honey saved me $1.50 and took me to cardpool where I saved another $3.89.  That’s $5.39 total, bringing my final savings so far to $23.63!

I think that extra cash will definitely come in handy for the post-pre-preseason (our actual preseason) as well.  With my third day of Honey hunt savings, I got a tub of Pacific Health Laboratories Accelerade workout mix for $14.97 at gnc.com.  This stuff is amazing.  Not only does it help my body stay hydrated and recover during and after a workout, it’s also great for hard mornings after overly-fun nights.

Have you been to a movie lately? If so, odds are you left disappointed. Big budget movies that used to enthrall audiences have largely, done just the opposite this summer.
