Ok new theory, after all that we have witnessed I have come to a conclusion of sorts. Maybe the Gardner guy was engaged to be married or married to Hong Jo in his past life and that is why shin yu says let's run away. And then things happen and she dies. Because in one of the episodes gardener guy says " you look a lot like my wife. She died" and he seems to know a lot of black magic and a lot about them.
