Series 2: Cinematic Excellence COMING JULY 2022! 18 pieces of work to explore a specific environment: how it molds the identity and shapes perspective. 🎭🎟🎬🍿 Life is a movie. It has a plot, for each and every one of us. The story of who we will become and how we get there…changing from person to person. That story, is directly influenced by the environments we grow up in. I’ve lived many places on and off, but I was born in and raised by the city I grew up in. As I roamed the various neighborhoods I lived in, one thing always remained the same: I knew I was from an urban, and frankly forgotten, environment. My interactions with the world and the world’s interactions with me remind me every chance I get. This shaped my approach to life. In series 2, we’ll explore various scenes from films in the Hood Classic genre to depict the people, emotions, relationships and experiences produced in these environments. Each scene correlated to a year, highlighting a significant experience in my life. My story, however, isn’t unique. There’s thousands of us buried under the rubble. The work is used to move the stories forward, as many others have- about our neighborhoods hidden in the shadows of the world…our stories hidden there too. These scenes are representative of complex situations in these environments-but the people- the people are dynamic, vibrant and resilient.
