Hooglede Duits Kerkhof

Established in 1917, the Hooglede German Cemetery is the resting place for 8241 soldiers killed in the area during the Great War.

In 2008 Belgium classified the cemetery as a historical monument. It takes perseverance to prevent the memory and sacrifice of these men from being lost in the annals of history, just as the markers in this cemetery are buried under the growth of the trees.

Habiendo capturado Ingelmunster el día anterior , la fuerza del ejército alemán encontró poca resistencia en Hooglede y Lichtervelde . Ambas aldeas fueron ocupadas el 15 de octubre de 1914. Los alemanes mataron a 2 campesinos en St – Jozef y ejecutaron 2 soldados británicos en Gits .
