This movie is still quite alright. It's far from perfect, but it's so deeply charming I can't help but enjoy it. It's a good re-telling of Peter Pan's story, especially nuanced by the fact that the movie Spielberg right after this one was "Schindler's List".

It feels like a movie made by a director ready to leave his childhood behind.

That is until he jumped right back into it in the 2010's.

So, all the recent news about you-know-what sorta reminded me of that really good Back to the Future x Hook crossover fanfic by Mary Jean Holmes called “Back to Neverland”, where Tinkerbell, a grown-up Peter Pan (now Peter Banning, a lawyer), and his smart friend/client Doc Brown go to Neverland to help stop a mysterious infestation that has been slowly killing off the plants and other life forms there.

Tinkerbell is all like, “Neverland is magic, bringing your outside science nonsense isn’t going to make things better, it’s probably what’s making Neverland die in the first place!” But Doc just goes ahead and does his science thing: Using a microscope from the apothecary, he identifies the parasite that’s been causing the dying off, recognizes it from something he saw in recent news about farming regions in Chile, deduces that some fruit crates must have been dumped overboard by disreputable shippers after U.S. customs and the FDA forced a recall, and that must be how those two crates ended up here in Neverland. Then, using that information, he whips up a chemical compound to neutralize the parasites in the faeries and plants and water.
