The advantage of getting older for a gray sabino roan* is that he was gray when he was young, too. He's still gray. And still handsome. And STILL hates having a camera pointed at him, hence the Ears.
This guy, the delight of my young adulthood, was a gray Arabian.
He was much darker when young, and got lighter every year until he was nearly white. He had dark hooves and gray skin, though, which gave his nose a bit more dignified appearance than Hero's.
'* white genes in horses are complicated, there are at least 5 genes controlling white, and naming can also get complicated. So - I think Hero has white from a roan gene (speckled throughout his coat) and a sabino gene (larger white patches) - but I am not an expert.
