i’m only about halfway through reading what’s currently available but I am loving every second. it is fantastic and grell is life. i mean, death. whatever, she’s awesome.
this lesser known manga buy tite kubo, the author of bleach, was the last thing he did before bleach, was cancelled so that bleach could be made, and is about twelve hundred times better than bleach(note that if this was extended to a top ten bleach would be like six or seven). the characters, the story, the drama... ugh, it’s near perfect.
this manga starts off with a man eating a giant bowl of noodles in one gulp in order to win a bet with a man he’s going to be in a rock band with. it just goes up from there. one of the first well-written trans characters in manga i ever saw is featured, there’s rival bands that try to get bremen legit killed, a cult bent on driving the masses to suicide, and a lot of humor. a great read.
dead people are cloned by super tech at the moment of death and used in invisible alien-hunting competitions for the amusement of the rich. it’s bloody, horrific, and the source of like half of the rageface memes.
well, at least until sai disappears. i stopped reading after that. it’s ridiculous in that it’s like a card game manga, but with a board game instead. and it’s motherfucking go, the game that othello(or reversi) was simplified from. a kid is possessed by the spirit of the best go player that ever lived, and proceeds to be trained by him to be as good as he was. regular slice-of-life stuff is interspersed throughout, and it’s a solid series. highly recommended.
