kashuu has a little… fixation with his hands.

nail-polish aside, he likes to make sure everything else is well taken care of. spoiled by his master, he had been taught how and had even given him the appropriate tools for hand-care perfection. a short list:

one; kashuu makes sure to wash his hands with nothing less than that non-drying and moisturizing lotion-infused soap. (rose scented, in instances he is given the leeway to be picky.) before meals, after meals, after work, after sortie, after expedition. and he makes sure to have time every week to exfoliate his hands, too.

two; nail-brush and file in hand, kashuu keeps his nails well-shaped every day, trimming them, careful to maintain the correct sort of curve. horikawa finds him in lazy afternoons sitting by the engawa busying himself; and on days that horikawa asks to sit next to him, he too will have his nails taken care of.

three; the day his master gifted him with work gloves was the day kashuu kiyomitsu voluntarily went out for fieldwork without being asked. hasebe almost fainted.

four; even on sorties, kashuu makes sure he has sunscreen on.

with all of that, the rest of the swords in the citadel gushes at how soft and beautiful kashuu’s hands are. “of course,” he says with an easy, charming smile, “it’s part of the labor that comes with being the prettiest here.” the more stern swords gently nod in agreement, the rest give him a hearty laugh.

and while his master holds pride for kashuu being a walking work of art, they know better, and remind kashuu that it is what he holds in these hands that make them important. so kashuu cradles each flowerpot to be brought out into the sun, holds the hilt of his sword in his closed fist firmly,

and lets go, relaxes when he indulges in a rare hand massage from his lover, feeling the callouses from centuries of swordfighting, stark against the softness of his touch.

horikawa brings kashuu’s pretty hands to his lips and leaves a gentle kiss at the knuckles, a wordless “i love you, thank you for staying, stay with me forever.”

kashuu always says “life is short, may as well spend it pretty,” when he gently applies moisturizer to horikawa’s hands one of those lazy afternoons, but he knows to be beautiful doesn’t mean to be soft. sometimes to be beautiful means to be sharp, and yet graceful, and yet rough.

kashuu envelops horikawa’s hands in his before sneaking a kiss. these, too, he knows, are hands as beautiful as his: provider of tea, of hand massages, of love.

hands he’d love to have the chance to hold, for as long as his short lifetime permits.
