At Cost Magazine - Blog Digest #5

The work of a music blogger is a never-ending task. Even though they say the music blog has been made obsolete by curated playlists or various streaming platforms, we still think we’re providing an essential service (excuse our ego for the moment) with At Cost Magazine and Swede + Sour (yes, another shameless promotion).
Through blogging or blog posts, we provide feedback and convey stories not possible through the quick and disposable ethos of strict music streaming. So despite our best efforts and the fact that the good, bad and the ugly continue to permeate our inboxes, unfortunately we still manage to leave out even really great music deserving of our undivided attention. This blog digest is our commitment to those musicians and their artistry.
Amtrac - “Informal Disco”
The artistic name of Caleb Cornett from the American south of Morehead, Kentucky, Amtrac is an electronic producer and occasional vocalist. However, for his latest track “Informal Disco”, the track is purely instrumental relying on cosmic synths and doubles on a percussive deep-house beat to echo its mood.
Helena Legend - “Ghost Ya (ft. Sophie Hintze)”
A transmuting indie-electro and dancehall beat that features the erupting vocals of topline writer Sophie Hintz, “Ghost Ya” is a coast-to-coast collaboration between LA's Helena Legend and its New York-based feature. Structured over the oomph of its hook-laden sound, the track is a bold and grabbing track with Hintze’s earth-shattering sound cutting through the single’s bassy upsurge.
Horixon - The Beekeeper (feat. Birsen of Hydrogen Sea) [Atella's Sand In Shoe Mix]
Horixon, the musical outcome of two Brits bonding over football (or soccer as we call it), recently put out track “The Beekeeper”. Featuring Birsen from Belgium’s Hydrogen Sea, the winding track navigates through a percussive shuffle of blocky beats and the trippy soothe of its feature.
Joy Downer - “Caught in Your Spell”
A track written about the fine line between lover and stalker, Los Angeles’ Joy Downer pens track “Caught in Your Spell”. Beaming with its fun skip, the single slides over its light and easy vocal and unfussy guitar strum, topped off with mariachi brass. Criss-crossing the planet in pursuit of her love, you can check out the track which appears on her recently released EP “Radio Dreamer”:
Reign - “Like We Used To”
The stage name of Jasmyn Kersey, Toronto-based artist Reign delivers a sweeping operatic sound over two-step beat on her latest track “Like We Used To”. Analogous to the sounds of Zola Jesus, it’s a sound captured by the visceral push of emotive vocals and deep-driven electronics.
Rudy Willingham - “Fools”
Opening to the glory of its Balboa-esque intro, Seattle-based producer Rudy Willingham’s latest track goes by the name of “Fools”. Blasting horns, vintage vocal croon and the groove of bumping bass takes place in the full-bodied electronica of Willingham’s latest track.
Silver Liz - “One and Twenty”
The Chicago-based duo of Carrie Wagner and Matt Wagner, Silver Liz create soft and shimmery tones with their latest track “One and Twenty”. Through its tambourine clang and grinding guitar shoegaze, Sliver Liz’s seamless transition between the light and the heavy is carried through their blissful yet blistering vocal sear.
White Night - “Crush”
Fed through the funnel of its propelling synth is San Francisco and Berlin’s “White Night” and their track “Crush”. While Willi Leinen and Elizabeth Boardman may be classically-trained musicians, their latest efforts are of a more recent phenomenon, and are driven by the glint of 80′s influenced, lo-fi synth pop.

Horixon Release Debut EP, Lifeline
HORIXON Lifeline (feat. Robert Owens)
Amazing British producers Andrew Armstrong and John Sambrooke aka Horixon are set to release their very first EP on Kitsuné with house legend Robert Owens! Out on November 4th! Andrew Armstrong on the one hand is the producer half of the band Monarchy, and under that name has DJed across the world, remixed the likes of OMD, Jamiroquai, S'Xpress, Kelis, Kylie and many more, as well as playing live at festivals such as Coachella, Bestival, LoveBox, Melt, and headline shows. John Sambrooke on the other hand is more of a background producer/engineer in London, working behind the scenes assisting on a number of projects. The two of them started Horixon on a whim, deciding to spend Wednesday afternoons, in the studio making something a bit clubby. The first track they did together needed a vocal, so they asked Chicago house legend Robert Owens to do the honours. The fit was perfect, updating his delivery to something modern, as well as keeping it classic and referencing strongly the sound of early house. The dance floor gem “Lifeline” was born. For this debut EP, the band is joined by two great remixers: south London based producer Kiwi and Kitsuné’s protégés Is Tropical. In addition to this exciting release which everyone is anxious to discover, “Lifeline” is also one of the standout tracks on the forthcoming Kitsuné Maison 15 Compilation !
Tracklist
