Rather than using closed upper cabinets and artificial lighting, I can achieve both [adequate storage and light] with open upper shelving and the horizontal window. It makes it feel more open and still achieve storage space. The horizontal window also frames the views of the trees outside, similar to Japanese paintings. This is what Frank Lloyd Wright used as inspiration too.
