So we went to see the new horror movie The Watchers earlier this week which comes from not only M. Night Shyamalan who is a producer on this movie but it was directed and co-written by this daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan and you can tell that she is her father's daughter and that she learned well from him.

but as for the movie I thought it was pretty good now I don't want to give away to much but be warned there might be some spoilers.

Now the movie is I thought very interesting and it pretty much kept me glued to the screen. I didn't want to miss any clue or any part of the mystery about what was going on in this somewhat strange movie. I can say I don't think it was overly scary I had one jump around the first from a well placed "jump scare" bird lol but the movie for the majority of the run time is just creepy AF! but you are almost mesmerized by it being you want to know who these people are, where did this weird building they are trapped in come from why was it built in the middle of the woods? what are these creatures? at first I thought they might be some type of trolls but they are not.

while watching this movie it reminded me of the TV series "From" if you haven't seen that you should go and watch it its really good. but yeah elements of this movie did remind me of that.

Now as for a story this basically is follows the character of Mina (Dakota Fanning) who is working through some trauma from her childhood while work at a pet store in Ireland and is asked to deliver a parrot to a zoo somewhere else Ireland while on her way there her car dies in the middle of the woods and she decides to start walking and gets kinda turned around and meets Madeline (Olwen Fouéré) who takes her back to to what they are calling "the Coop" its a large single room that looks like a stage with a glass wall. Mina meets 2 other strangers who have been trapped there for months and she is told that every night creatures known only as "the Watches" come and watch them do random things and then leave in the morning. So Mina is determined to not be trapped here and find out what the watchers are and how to escape the forest and that is pretty much it.

Now like I said I thought it was pretty good I feel it was well acted and it is very suspenseful and creepy and visually it was really cool. the creature design was I thought pretty interesting it fit the story. You don't see them right away of course but you get bits at a time. personally the only problem I had with the movie over all was how Mina got into the woods to be lost. She is following a GPS and it leads her out into the middle of nowhere I just kinda felt that was kinda strange I can't believe the GPS picked that as the best route to get to this zoo. other then that I didn't have any real problems with the movie.

As for any type of twist? there isn't a big one I would think it was a small one I thought it was going to involve the main character Mina because it kinda feels like it leads to her but it actually doesn't.

but yeah if you want to watch a creepy and interesting movie I would suggest it.

So yes this week we went to see the new horror movie Heretic which I thought was absolutely great!

Now I don't want to give to much away because you have to go and see this one for yourself! Its very extremely good and another win for A24. As you probably know from reading my thoughts on movies that I have been very critical of their films at times being they have had movies where the story and everything is perfect but the last 15-10 minutes devolve into just nonsensical bullshit like stuff being weird for the sake of being weird but recently they have been doing pretty good and this is another excellent example of that.

The movie is basically about these 2 Mormon girls Sophie Thatcher as Sister Barnes and Chloe East as Sister Paxton who are going around town trying to spread the world of Jesus and trying to get people to join their church and they end up at the home of a Mr. Reed played by Hugh Grant who expresses interest in their region/church He gets them to come into his house and seems like a really nice guy but then he shows his true nature and traps them in his weirdly creepy maze like house and he uses his weapon of choice on them which is Theology while the girls try to escape the Hell they are now trapped in. Now its kinda very talky and you have to pay attention because it is a very interesting and a very thought provoking movie I didn't expect that from this movie there is some scares it did give me a couple of jumps but the movie is mainly very suspenseful and its incredibly creepy but it does I thought keep you on the edge of your seat being there is that "oh noes whats going to happen next!" type of feel to it. you actually care about the girls and want to seem them survive and make it out of there.

The acting in this was amazing and you should see it for that alone. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as the 2 girls were really good in this I thought they did an excellent job but the true performance goes to Hugh Grant as the creepy and somewhat menacing Mr. Reed he plays this villain role so perfectly that alone is scary by itself. You kind don't know what the character did before this but he is extremely highly intelligent but you can tell he is broken inside and he seemingly went looking for answers in religion and what he found there he took it and twisted it and now uses it like a weapon to the point where it is just like a physical thing like a knife. The only other character that I can think of at the time he might be similar too is John Kramer/Jigsaw from the Saw movies. Mr. Reed is not the same but I do feel like there is some similar things.

also speaking about actors the character of Elder Kennedy I seen this guy and I'm like "he looks soooo familiar!!" but it wasn't really clicking in my head but then it hit me and I'm like "oh its Topher Grace" lol

but other then that like I said the movie was excellent and I would recommend going to see it.

also just one last thing The scenes with the staircases outside where they had to walk up and down the stairs carrying their bikes I was like "Why don't they just walk up and down the grass? it would be alot easier I mean that is what I would do!"

So yes we went to see the new horror movie Abigail earlier this week. I was like little ballerina vampire? sure why not?

the premises of the movie might sound a bit silly but it is actually pretty good! I really enjoyed it. I don't feel that it was a horror movie it is billed as such but I didn't feel it was I didn't find it scary and there was no real jumps or anything I kinda of felt it was a bit more of a dark comedy. It had more humor in it then scares in my opinion.

They also leaned into the silly idea of the movie itself with the characters commenting on how crazy and outlandish the situation is involving a little ballerina vampire.

Your basic story is this group of criminals are hired to kidnap this little girl and hold her for ransom for 24 hours they soon find out that not everything is as it seems when they are locked into this mansion and are set upon but a cute lil pink tutu wearing vampire as she prances around tearing them apart one by one.

the movie has some really nice practical and visual effects as well as some nice make-up work too.

The acting was good too from all involved especially from Alisha Weir who plays the title character of Abigail. I bet she had tons of fun working on this movie. but everyone did an amazing job.

but yeah I thought it was a good movie it was crazy and interesting and I felt it was a bit different then the usual vampire stuff. So if you are curious about the movie I would say give it it watch.

So yes while I was away we did go and see the new masterpiece by M. Night Shyamalan the crime thriller "Trap" Now I wanted to see this being it looked interesting and we pretty much go to all of M. Night Shyamalan's movies because they are always very different and very weirdly interesting and I do like them.

So we went to see this and I thought it was really good. I did enjoy it and it kept me interested through out the whole movie. I felt that this was a very slow burn type of movie and you have to go with it as it as it slowly unfolds and becomes more and more intense as the character of Cooper (played by Josh Hartnett) becomes more and more desperate.

The basic story for it is its about a Father and his Daughter. Its starts off pretty much innocently as its a father taking his daughter to a concert being put on by her favorite singer a Taylor Swift type of character named Lady Raven who is played by M. Night Shyamalan's daughter Saleka Shyamalan who is an actual singer. The Father Cooper (played by Josh Hartnett) got tickets to this as a reward for his daughter doing well in school. When they get there the place is crawling with police and FBI because unbeknownst to them the concert is a ruse because they are looking for a concert goer they are looking for Cooper who is secretly a serial killer named "The Butcher" and now Cooper is Trapped in the stadium and has to figure a way to get out before they find him and do it with out arsing any suspicion.

Like I said I thought it was really good I liked how the story unfolded and it keeps you wondering "How is he going to get out of this??" and I felt Josh Hartnett was prefect as the character of Cooper. He is scary on various levels he is just so evil and so slick and smooth in what he does its kinda shocking. I think he must have researched people like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy to get his performance like that.

Ariel Donoghue did a great job as his daughter Riley and Saleka Shyamalan was great as the character of Lady Raven and everyone else was good too. Also M. Night Shyamalan like all this movies does have a cameo and plays a a member of the event staff, but yeah Josh Hartnett's performance does totally shine in this.

So I would recommend this movie if you were wanting to watch a nice thriller some night. but also don't get your hopes up for some crazy twist near the end there isn't one on this movie which is surprising I thought there was going to be one but there wasn't but that doesn't ruin the movie or anything maybe that alone is the twist that there isn't one who knows lol

but also don't forget there is a kind of funny mid-credit scene that involves one of the characters Cooper meets at the stadium

So this past Tuesday we went to see the new horror movie Longlegs. The trailers looked some what terrifying and strange. Now I don't want to give anything away about it so I'm going to try to be very careful about what I say.

because if you want to see it you just just see it you kinda experience it. Now they are saying it is "the scariest film of the year" or "the scariest film of the decade" I honestly don't think it was "scary" I do feel that scary is a subjective term not everyone is going to be scared by the same thing. Now that said I found it somewhat horrifyingly disturbing, strange but extremely captivating like I didn't and couldn't look away and you can't focus on just one thing like a character sitting at a desk you have to look at everything! like doors and windows and like walls you are like there is something in there with them you just can't see it right now type of thing it can be extremely atmospheric in its horror and at the same time it can also shock you with scenes and images.

One thing that drew me to it was it seemed very reminiscent of The Silence of the Lambs which is one of my favorite movies and the best way to describe Longlegs I think is its like The Silence of the Lambs/Red Dragon/Se7en kinda merged with something supernatural like The Conjuring/The Omen or even The Exorcist.

like one thing is the acting were it is very good especially from Maika Monroe who plays FBI Agent Lee Harker the way she plays this reminds me so much of Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling and it is so close that It feels as though she might have tried to emulate what Jodie Foster did and I feel like it worked perfectly in this.

Also as for Nicolas Cage who plays the title character of "Longlegs" the deranged and I do mean completely insanely off the wall nutty character. He goes completely off the rails in this and is terrifying and strange to watch and he is so good at it. He has prosthetics on and makeup and all that but you just have to sit and watch him go absolutely crazy. he is a monster to be afraid.

but like I said I don't want to say to much about it I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but just a couple of more things to point out the music/score for this fits it perfectly it is as haunting and frighting as the visuals and all the flashbacks are done in this almost 8mm style which I thought was cool and it sets it apart from the rest of the movie so it was a nice stylistic choice for sure.

but yeah if you want to experience this movie I would say go for it.

So we went to see the new horror movie The First Omen which is a prequel to the 1976 movie The Omen. I do like the original movie and the remake as well we went to see The Omen remake on opening night June 6, 2006 (thats right 6/6/06) now were I thought the original one and the remake were good the others weren't that good Damien: Omen II was alright and the 3rd Omen III: The Final Conflict was just plain awful especially the ending. I remember vaguely there was a 4th one but also some failed TV projects too.

but being The Omen is a interesting franchise I wanted to see this one. I can say I wasn't disappointed as I mentioned it is a prequel to the original movie and focuses on the character of Margaret (played by Nell Tiger Free) who is going to become a nun and if brought to Rome to serve the church but while there she encounters overwhelming darkness and learns the secrets of her past and ultimately becomes the mother to the antichrist who is known as Damien in the original movies.

Now I can say that this was very scary there were a few good jumps in it though but ultimately it is just very creepy and has alot of disturbing imagery but over all I think it totally captures the feel, heart and soul of the original movie. I feel that it was shot and written with so much love for the original 1976 movie.

The music is a big part of it too and you can tell they didn't want to change it to much from the original score. I feel they wanted this movie to be perfectly matched to the original one like to the point it feels that this was made in the 70s and you can watch this one and then watch the original and it should feel like it hasn't skipped a beat like the original is actually a sequel to this.

There is alot of things that are totally Omen related in it visual style and some of the things that happen are reminiscent of the original movies the hanging scene gave me chills because it is very reminiscent and almost identical to the one in the 1976 movie. Also the scene where the guy get cut in half is a really cool visual effect in this and your like "oh wow!"

but other then that the acting was pretty great and I thought the movie was over all really good and it is the perfect set up for the original movie it even has a bit of a spine tingling ending. but even with the ending it does leave you with some questions tho.. but over all it was good and if you enjoyed the original movie I would highly recommend it.

So we went to see the new new Horror movie Never Let Go. Yup not Transformers this week we had to see this one first.

Now I seen the trailer for it and though it looked interesting, now I'm not a huge fan of Hallie berry for reasons I'm not going to go into here but that is not going to stop me from going to see a movie that might be good. anyway I thought it was a pretty good movie from the trailer it looks like a haunted forest or like creatures in the woods type of thing but I'm thinking after watching it I'm thinking that it was about something completely different.

Your basic story is Halle Berry plays A character only known as "Momma" and she lives with her 2 sons out in The middle of this dense forest in a house apparently built by her Father the house is somewhat blessed or something and it protects them from what is only referred to as "the Evil" this "Evil" according to Momma wiped out all civilization on earth and they are the only ones left on the planet. and they have been living there in the house for many years and go out foraging for food and hunting and are connected to the house by ropes that apparently extend the houses protection. As food becomes more scarce and hunting stock dwindle the family becomes more desperate and not only that but one of the 2 boys Nolan (played by Percy Daggs IV) is beginning to have second thoughts about the world around him and starts to question what Momma has told him. So with "the Evil" encroaching ever closer and fractures showing in the families unity will they survive or will they be over taken and swallowed by "the Evil"

Now while watching this I thought it was going to be a haunted forest type of thing but I do think it is anything but that. I think this movie goes far beyond that and is much deeper then ghost or anything truly supernatural I think this movie is more psychological then it is supernatural because first off The only person for the majority of the movie who sees "the Evil" is Halle Berry's Momma which kinda lead me to believe that she was either some type of medium/psychic or that she was someone suffering from Schizophrenia where she is having sometype of Hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thinking and behavior also I feel that "the Evil" has alot to do with things like guilt and because every time "the Evil" shows itself to Momma it appears as a family member mostly her mother and one time as her husband now from what I remember it is mentioned in the movie that she killed her parents and her husband because they were abusive to her in her life before living in the house in the woods so I think this movie from my own perspective is more about mental illness as well was verbal, emotional and physical abuse. because the "the Evil" in my view was not a exterior force but an internal one being that Momma is projecting her inner demons out and seeing them as a threat to her and the boys also I feel that she is a abuser as she is raising and treating her sons the same way that her parents treated her. I also feel that this is true because as I said the boys don't see anything the son Nolan doesn't see anything until after his mothers death which he feels guilty for and the same for his brother Samuel (played by Anthony B. Jenkins) after events that happen to him as well as I believe that Samuel is possibly developing the same condition as his mother. So I think "the Evil" could be more of an generational thing.

Now is this all true? I think so at lease that is what I kinda took from the movie because there are scenes that I feel support this and there is another that kinda contradict it but I feel that it is true for the most part in my opinion. That is what conclusion I came to after watch the movie and it makes sense to me.

Now as for the rest of the movie its very well done, its very atmospheric and somewhat very haunting and has a great balance of dramatic and intestacy. It was nicely shot and showed a good scope of the world these people live in and was good with the production design. There was one scene with Halle Berry that is really intense and I did kinda start getting upset about but happily that scene didn't reach it conclusion and went in another better way lol but the acting was of course amazing especially from the 2 boys I believe Percy Daggs IV/Nolan was the stand out performance in this also.

So yeah in the end I thought it was a pretty great movie and if you are looking for something spooky to watch I would recommend checking it out

So yes we went to see the new horror movie the prequel thing The Strangers: Chapter 1 Now I have seen the original movies and they are pretty good so I was interested in going to see this.

Being that this is a prequel of sorts being it says "How the Strangers became The Strangers" and I believe this is suppose to be the first time they did this? The Characters do appear younger the girls appear Teenage and "Bagman" (that is what I call him) is maybe late 20s? So i think maybe this is set up to of course be their first time doing this.

Now the basic movie is this couple Maya (played by Madelaine Petsch)and Jeff (Ryan Bown) are are doing a road trip to celebrating their anniversary and they end up in this little town and their car brakes down and are forced to stay over night at a Airbnb cabin on the edge of town while the car gets fixed and they are set upon by some masked intruders and have to fight for their lives. that is pretty much it. This one is very similar to the original movie I wouldn't say it was a remake but I do feel that that there was some similar things that happened.

Now one of the main things about horror movies is never get off the main road! and this movie is a perfect example of what happens when you do! lol if they didn't get off the Highway they wouldn't have ended up in the town and wouldn't have met the Strangers! remember never get off the main road lol!! Now the scene after they left the dinner and the car wouldn't start and Jeff (Ryan Bown) feels that it was tampered with I kinda had to agree with him during that scene I did feel that it was kinda sketchy like them being stranded there did feel like a bit of a set up and I wouldn't be surprised if that mechanic guy did do something to the car. I just found that whole thing suspicious that there was suddenly something wrong with the car and the hotel was conveniently unavailable and they were pretty much pushed into this specific cabin in this specific location lol but Yes they almost got into a crash on there way into town which was blamed for the car troubles but like I said I wouldn't be surprised if something was done to the car while they were in the dinner.

but other then that I thought the movie was pretty good I enjoyed it. There was a few good jumps in it but other then that it wasn't overly scary. The main thing that I think really bothered me was when the couple was trying to escape the cabin by going through the crawl space and Maya (Madelaine Petsch) puts her hand on a rusty old nail and it goes right up thought the top of her hand. So yeah everything else going on and that is the thing got me the most lol

but yeah over all I thought it was a pretty good movie if you like the previous ones you might like this one. at the end it said "to be continued" so I'm interested in seeing part 2 also don't get up when the movie ends there is actually a mid credit scene!! all the people got up and left as soon as it said "to be continued" but me and the people I went with we usually don't go until the credits actually roll so we were waiting and then mid credit scene happens and we were the only people left in the theater to see it so don't leave to quickly if you go to see this.
