the rain had come out of nowhere, but thankfully they’d managed to find a shop nearby to buy an umbrella from while running from the sudden downpour. rain has always been something sammy enjoys. even as a kid, he can remember running out into the fields during those heavy summer showers and getting soaked from the rain. he can remember the low rumble of thunder, the smell of petrichor and the feeling of wet grass under his feet. one of his favorite memories has always been the time he and his friends had gotten stuck in an october sunshower while migrating the corn maze his family put up every fall. he can still almost smell the stalks if he tries hard enough. but now as he finds himself huddled beneath a crystalline umbrella with jackie, he can’t stop himself from looking up as the rain meets their vinyl shelter and spills along the sides. it’s because of this that he almost doesn’t notice when jackie darts out from under it and goes sprinting into a puddle. “what’re you doin’, crazy girl?” he lights up with laughter, smiles warm as he pulls the umbrella from over top of his head and spins it at it’s top along the concrete below. it’s his best ‘singing in the rain' impression as he dances around it goofily and then joins her by leaping into the puddle she’s still standing in. “race you t’the next one.” / @horrormaestro
