1. An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
What is fear, really? Is it running and hiding when you hear something strange around the corner? Or maybe it's that sick feeling you get when all the lights are turned off. Especially during the witching hour, a time where morning and night meet. Where you can't see your own hand in front of your face, but when the hand is extended further into the darkness, the presence of spirits is almost palpable. They can be felt creeping up from behind, claws reaching out, dragging any living thing that is full of life into oblivion. People argue that mythical creatures aren't real. On some level, we do imagine them. Deep within the woods, witches are dancing around a fire, its flames unfurling towards the full moon. Around this time, the werewolves come out to change into their most primal selves; wondering, searching for the next prey. Faeries and goblins hiding in the caves, watching your every move. Vampires walk the streets, eager for more warm, fresh blood. People claim they aren't scared of these creatures; for they don't exist. That's not entirely true. When walking alone at night, you look over your shoulder just to make someone or something isn't lurking from behind. What about the safe familiarity of your own home? (At least you thought it was safe.) Waking up in a cold sweat, heart beating erratically. The floors creaking and the sounds of light taps on the wall echoes along the hall. You see, darling, these strange happenings are all in your head. On a subconscious level, we still believe they exist. Fear will do that to you.
