Sooooo Alfred is the biggest horse lover to exist. So I was wondering if you could share all the horses that you have given him in your fics ( as a horse lover creating the horses is super fun for me)
I have made 4 for him
Freedom ( a brown American paint mare - revolution era)
Devil ( a dark bay mustang mare with a temper - end of the Wild West era mostly)
Saoirse ( red blanket Appaloosa mare - beginning of the Wild West era)
And Wild card or Wild West ( just Wild really) ( a quarter horse blue roan gelding - owned in the modern day )
YES I WILL GIVE YOU THE LIST I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR SOMEONE TO ASK ME ABOUT ALFRED'S HORSES. AND YOUR HORSES SOUND COOL TOO!!!! THANK YOU. i do think the only fics i have named the horses in are the lions den ones. off the top of my head i dont think any of the others had named horses. and im going to include photos because im crazy. so, lions den horses (under a cut because i have photos):
Honey, gifted to Alfred by Arthur in 1755 Watertown. I never usually had a breed in mind for the horses but she was a Palomino like this. She was very sweet :( alfred was very bonded to her.
Liberty, purchased by Alfred himself in 1770, chestnut/strawberry roan, the horse he had during the revolution and beyond. Liberty was like Alfred's rock during the war, lmao
Whiskey THE ICON!!! Alfred would have gotten her after Liberty sometime, idk when, but Whiskey was in good shape as of 1812-1814. Whiskey was the only one i ever named the breed for. She was a Narragansett Pacer, a now extinct breed, and was the first american breed. read more here. they were known to be very fast and hardy and ready at a moments notice. there are not photos obviously because they are.... extinct..... but this was her coloring. and i am soft for whiskey bc shes the one who has the most "screentime" in all my fics. SHE FORDED THAT RIVER!!!!!
BONUS! Matthew has a named horse as well, Beau, who he had at the same time alfred had whiskey. shoutout to Beau, he was iconic as well.
finally alfred does not have a named horse in a study in separation because he does not currently have a horse. his horse passed away in 1859/1860, and with the start of the war, he did not purchase a new one. so he's horseless for a while! but he gets a new one in 1867. these horses are not named but im going to name them right now. his pre-war horse was named Peppercorn, and his post-war horse is named Faith. the black one below is Peppercorn. Peppercorn and Liberty are the only horses who met Francis, isn't that wild. the other is faith. interesting name given........ oh alfred
honorable mention--arthur has two named horses in colossians that the boys ride in Prestbury -- Charlie (chestnut colored) and a white one named Purity.
In other horse news I checked out one of the city stables nearby after a client and was blown away by the size and scope of the undercover arena!
It’s just always unfortunate with city stables knowing that there’s limited turn out options but I do see that they take horses out to turn out into paddocks over the holidays and throughout the year.
I had a great dressage lesson and lots of horse time, though! So maybe more horse time in the future? We’ll see!
