quick facts about me: american (if you couldn’t tell 🦅🦅🦅), notorious yapper, history nerd, avid fan of the oxford comma, and enjoyer of all music INCLUDING country. yee-haw. I care way too much about doing research and making things historically accurate.
aaaa my god Arthur probably has memories from when he was like, seven and wasn't an np yet of Oliver being kind and having him over for tea or somethin! Like Oliver either raised him or visited often. maybe a generation of buffer would be fun, so Arthur's father is Oliver's son? And his father was originally in line to be an np except he died in the war? Given that the transition happened around and post world war one. Oh my god poor Arthur. First your dad goes and then your beloved grandpa goes and now you have to bear the weight of holding the title when you were never 100% prepared for it. Like maybe a part of him always thought his dad would take the mantle but then, oop, no, and then a handful of years later Oliver fucking dies and Arthur is the new np. That had to suck so bad for him
i love the idea of arthur thinking hes not in the running and then OOPS he is. love love love that. and i love this family drama hes got going on like im so obsessed. nation clause you are so so famous
I wanted to say that I actually work at a (non Smithsonian) museum that focuses on DC and Northern VA local history, so whenever you talk about anything history related in my area I'm pointing at my phone screen and thinking about the exhibits in my museum. Esp recently with all the civil war stuff haha!
It's cool to see neighborhoods and history that I have grown up knowing in your works 😁
omg that is so cool! i wish i worked at a museum lowkey. my city doesn't have many. i did email one just as a cold call even though they weren't hiring and they responded so. maybe someday something will come of that. ANYWAYS~~ that is very cool i wish that i lived in a place where pics and stuff took place so i could point as well. im very excited to visit :)) i think this trip has been planned since last november i am soooo ready to go on vacation.
That one episode of hetalia where they're trapped in an island and don't know what to eat; I just know the allies would rush to search food because none of them want to be the first one to be cannibalized by Oliver. Oliver when they get fruits and fish and etc acting like well damn it's like you guys hate me! /j
(I say one episode but that was like half of the first season).
literally they were on that island so damn long and for what. dream scenario for oliver if he'd been there
Do you think Multiverse Jones actually has the canon America strength? can he drag a car with his hands too? I say this because he's supposed to be the most accurate Alfred, isn't he? Imagine him carrying the rest of the gang ow
yes! he is strong and he probably could do some car dragging with some effort. its correct that jones and his crew is supposed to be more accurate to the anime version, more so in personality than reality, but they still have their differences obvi (jones being a sourpuss a bit and england being all soft on alfred)
Oliver only does a cannibalism when it's out of necessity but he's low-key too into it when he does. Like "Oh goodie I haven't had this in a while :3c" and it's like. Bro. And he's like "No no dearie I'm just finding the silver lining of it all." God I love this calmed down but still absolutely hilariously twisted version of him. Only does it when there's no other option but there's also one(1) part of him that's excited to get creative with a new ingredient, regardless of what that ingredient is. Could be a new breed of lemons, could be... gestures at the starving time
Guy who only eats people when absolutely necessary for survival reasons but constantly puts himself into survival situations so that he can eat people. Hes so funny i love him so much. He is so so perfect.
I think the question of whether or not Oliver is a good person is a funny and complicated one. I think he legitimately cares for all of his charges, I think he cares about Britain, I think he is a very pleasant person to talk to, I think he likes making all of his guests something sweet. I do also think that he is capable of and has actively committed great evils, as is necessary as an NP. He's all of that. Most importantly he's my blorbo
EXAAACTTTLLLYYYYTYYYYYTYT HES my blorbo til i die. He’s a bad bad bad man. I wanna go to a dinner party at his house.
I remember when Encanto first released I begged my dad to watch the movie with me in the cinema even though we were in the middle of a pandemic, and after that, i got Disney+ and rewatched the film at least 4 or 5 times, so ig that says a lot about how much I liked it.
The anon talking about Alfred joining different NPs to watch movies with got me thinking soo yeah fanart 🔥
I think the movie was very well done, it was really cool to watch people talking about my country not because of stupid series like Narcos, but because Encanto really showed people how beautiful Colombia and it's people are. I'm definitely rambling but I think Esmeralda would've cried during Dos Oruguitas (Alfred too I'm ngl), and after going to youtube to listen to the song again, I realized that the subtitles are literally 'man singing in foreign language' ok man thanks ig.
Maybe after Pocahontas and Peter Pan, Alfred is kinda judgemental towards Disney's depiction of non white people, so he'd be a bit scared of another culture and NP going through that too, and that's why he freaked out when Esmeralda looked like that lmao.
Omg this is so cute I love how you draw!!!!!! I’m glad you liked the movie it really was special for Colombia. And yeah pochontas is so wrong and disappointing on so many levels which is such a shame because I feel like something good could have been done but like. Revisionist history and all that. Songs are so banger and parts of the message (colors of the wind I’m looking at you) are great but wow. Really missed the mark on that one. Don’t even get me started on Peter Pan good lord 😳
Conversely the princess and the frog did an okay job showing that American culture except. You know. The parts where the poc characters are turned into animals for the entire movie so you can’t really. Enjoy them. We’ll get it one day we’ll figure it out. Maybe.
Thinking about those baby portraits from a couple hundred years ago where some of them had bells hanging from their waist, presumably so it's easier to find them if they toddle off. Alfred definitely had a bell when he was a kid. I think he actually moves pretty quietly but consciously makes noise as he gets older because he doesn't want to spook anyone. Matthew is the same way except he lives off of sneaking up on others so he doesn't bother making noise, if you don't see him then that's on you. Francis encouraged this so Matthew didn't get a bell as a child.
Omg that is so so so cute. Alfred def had a bell. Arthur actually invented the child leash. And yes of course Francis would have Matthew sneaking up on people as a kid those two are such foxes.
Having so much fun figuring out the bloodlines- but my favorite is that Alfred has the exact features as the first American np. The boy is a blast from the past and here to haunt any np that ever met the first American np (what if his name was James for Jamestown).
I also hold the opinion that Alfred looks shockingly similar to the original American NP. James could work. Omg little Jamie. Someone do something
Getting attached to nation clause Oliver oh no. I think he had a swear jar. I also think that he genuinely loves children, like, since we established that the NPs in this au can just have normal kids, I think a lot of the Kirkland line can pin their existence on Oliver genuinely liking to raise children and (gasp) actually being a decent father. Like it's more complicated with the American np because functional immortality but everyone who had a human lifespan and was raised by him within it probably don't have very bad things to say about him, outside of like.. the general woes of being raised in between the sixteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds. I think Arthur is the most famously beloved because modern media but I also kind of think that Oliver is like, historically significant. Probably the longest lasting np for that country. Bro probably owned like hundreds of cats over the years too.
Similarly I think Arthur struggles with trying to live up to Olivers name, like, coming after someone considered a great has to suck. Francis gets to relate though, given that he's also the next in line after a long lived np. Haha fruk in every age
I agree with everything you’re saying like I too fear that I love him. But here’s the thing how are we reconciling the actions of England during those years with the Nice person we know Oliver to be. Is his just super super pleasant but deep down a bad person who is good at hiding it, as an inverse of Arthur who is very prickly but sweet on the inside? (Arthur is a sour patch kid). Like what was Oliver’s role in all that happened concerning the Americas. Is he just like. A good person who does bad things. Because I do believe that he is a good parent and the grandfather of Europe (reference to Queen Victoria being the grandmother of Europe) so like. How does it work. How are we doing this.
Thinking deeply of Oliver and the America of the revolution era. That must have been nasty, along with 1812 on top of it. Yikes yikes.
AND YES ARTHUR FEARING HE WONT LIVE UP TO HIS… whatever Oliver is to him. Father grandfather idk. Love that. Sorta lion king hamlet ass story going on with Arthur
