“hot” take but i don’t think seymorin counts as a proship. sure, it’s not really my cup of tea, but the fact that it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows shouldn’t immediately deem it problematic.
I sorta answered this in a previous ask, but accordin t' a lot of reddit forums, TikTok n other online medias—any sort of problematic pairin is deemed as a "proship." (If anyone wants t' weigh in, please, be my guest.)
So, in th' case of Seymorin: there's a pronounced power imbalance, th' whole poor vs rich thing. As well as Orin bein a notorious abuser. Somethin very obvious.
N who's t' say that, in a relationship, he wouldn't be jus as horrible t' Seymour as he is wit Audrey?
(If you wanna squint... Some folks might even say there's an age gap there? But that's purely based on headcanon since, regardless, they're both consentin adults n can do whatever they want.)
Seymour's relationship with Orin is based purely on fear n resentment. (In canon.)
He desperately wants to be in his place, t' be wit Audrey, n make his way out of Skid Row. If he were in Orin's place, he'd finally get his happiness. n, truly after very little persuasion by Twoey, decides t' get rid of him as an obstacle by murdering him.
Now, if we take a little look at th' fanon side of it all, many takes of their relationship do, in fact, acknowledge how problematic their relationship is, n what it's built on; mostly due t' th' fact that Audrey is involved in one way or another. Or if they play into th' time (1960s), Homosexuality was very illegal n labeled as a mental illness.
Seymorin is, n always will be, toxic yaoi™. There's no way t' not make it problematic n still in character.
However, I agree wit you. It's not a proship. Th' pro- in proship doesn't equal problematic. It jus means you're in favor of somethin, that you won't police someone pairin.
