Golly Gosh, She’s Hot - this is a rare 1930s European porcelain kinetic sculpture, which has a detachable left leg that can be used as a smoking pipe. The empty seat next to her would be where one placed the tobacco or herb of choice to pack into the pipe.
Descended from a much older Chinese and European tradition of risqué articulated nodding figures, these Naughty Nodders were novelty items designed for storing spices, trinkets or smoking paraphernalia. They are being rediscovered today as examples of mid-century kitsch, pin-up culture and postwar ceramic design. Most commonly found examples are Japanese export ashtrays mass produced during the late 1940s and 1950s post war colonial era.

In Seeking Persephone, Adam offers the Lancasters over £100,000 in exchange for Persephone's hand. Well, I wanted to know how much that would be today in American dollars. So I did some research. Seeking Persephone takes place in 1805 and around that time the exchange rate between pounds and dollars was 4 dollars for every pound. So in 1805, Adam's offer would have amounted to $400,000. So what would be that today with inflation? Approximately $11,289,333.33. Over $11 million!
Holy shit!
So there's been this citicens' initiative going on since the end of last september for adding a third official gender marker into Finnish law. If it got 50 000 signeratures, it would go on to the government.
And, peeps.
I signed sometime during the first week, back when the petition was still fresh, and I admit, I was sad to watch the number of signings plateau since that first burst and stay firmly below 20 000 signeratures. I honestly thought it likely wouldn't be able to make it.
But this last week has been pretty surreal seeing it actually advertised around social media and see the number actually starting to tick up. And, like, look at that graph!
We got the last 20 000 signatures within this past day!! Singular!! It's been out there, signeable, for half a year. I was refreshing the page last night *past midnight* and watched the number tick up by a thousand new signatures *in an hour*!!!
I don't know what happened, but HOT DANG!!
It's still open for today, so if any Finnish peeps out there following me would like to participate in making sure this keeps up, that would honestly be pretty awesome.
Hot dang!
I accidentally helped getting a bunch of Korean grannies and grandpas addicted to UNO.
