What's Hot4Dinner in London?
To get an idea of the current restaurant scene in London we here at Planbow currently use Foursquare to find out what's near us. To find out what restaurants are going to open soon or which ones are having a soft launch, we like to use Hot-Dinners.com.
We decided to enhance Hot-Dinners' great information by allowing you to explore where are all of the latest restaurants opening in London and where the new ones are going to open.
Our current implementation allows you to see currently "Opened" restaurants and restaurants that will be opening "soon" by clicking on the tabs on the left hand side. If you click on any of the restaurants names on the list or on the markers on the map it will pull up data from Hot-Dinners and Foursquare data. By combining all of the information together on the page we hope that it can give you more context about the restaurants in London. For example you can see that there are many restaurants in the Soho area and as well restaurants outside zone 1-2 that are getting showcased such as Bubbas in Tulse Hill. Below is a screenshot of
After working on this we realized that Hot-Dinners could do something really similar by creating a Foursquare list and sharing that with the world. However we treated this as a learning exercise to get used to some of the web technologies out there.
Knockout.js - a MVVM Javascript framework
Foursquare API - this is a great API for location information. It has a lot of venue information and the response is really quick
Mapbox - This is the same maps Foursquare use. They are beautiful maps and we wanted to use it eventually for our app. Really powerful and easy to use. What more could one ask for?
Thanks for checking out our first piece of work.
