New old pic of Ewan and Tom together.
Hot take: Olivia stans, who baby her, wish she was "free from this show" and act like someone held a knife to her throat forcing her to play Alicent and she had no choice but to carry on are ridiculous.
She's an adult woman who played roles of overly sexualised charactes before. She was fully aware of the consequences when she accepted the role of Alicent. If she was that uncofortable, she could have always broken the contract, paid the fine and be free. Okay, she could be "blacklisted", but Olivia is wealthy enough to live comfortable life for next 80 years even if she chooses not to work a day more. I'm sure getting roles in niche/ Indie productions would still be an option.
I don't blame Olivia for stupid stuff she says in her interviews and promo campaigns because she was likely instructed to. Still and all, complaining about being asked about her favourite dragons makes a rather bad impression. Granted she doesn't need to be an ASOIAF/ FNB nerd, but are lore-related question that surprising? Even the most superficial level of knowledge would be sufficient, I guess.
I can't quite understand people behaving as if hotd-related events were some kind of Alicent/Olivia hate campaigns. If antything, the producers are trying to make the character as likeable as possible.
I agree that treating Olivia like some helpless hostage trapped in the role is ridiculous. She is a professional doing a job, and she would hardly be the first actor to leave a production if she found the work unbearable.
A lot of what she says during promotion is indeed probably rehearsed or encouraged by the studio, while some of the more awkward comments seem to come from poor media training. Most people criticizing those remarks do not hate her. They simply think she occasionally says something foolish, which plenty of actors manage to do whenever someone places a microphone in front of them.
I do disagree slightly with the idea that the producers are helping her, though. They may believe they are protecting Olivia and making Alicent more sympathetic, but their strategy often does the opposite. They give her talking points that irritate viewers, deepen the contradictions around her character, and leave Olivia absorbing backlash for choices she did not write. That is a bad promotion.
Saying that bc i too am hispanic, so i was like hell yeah, representation. He’s not but either way, he’s a poc and an amazing actor. Hopefully he gets more roles after this.
He absolutely is. 🙂
I also respect him for being one of the few cast members willing to openly criticize the show and question some of the choices made behind the scenes. That honesty only makes me like him more.
I thought Fabien was hispanic when i first saw him☠️
You’re definitely not alone, anon. I assumed the same thing at first. 🙃
"people here parasocially hate them and think they hate each other behind the scenes" - no one said the actors "hate each other" behind the scenes.
First of, the only person who "parasocially hates" an hotd actress is your sad alysmond anon, apparently obsessed with Phia Saban.
Secondly, everybody stressed it that the actors are, first and foremost, coworkers, who seem to be in good terms, but we don't know if they're indeed close friends or meet each other only at/after work-related events. Idk if this anon is illiterate, mentally challenged or just dense.
Yep, that’s them. My little delusional Alysmond anon has returned to defend an argument nobody actually made. 😂
And I think they’re illiterate, painfully dense, and mentally challenged all at once.
A true multitasker.
Why are the friendships on the Hotd set "performative" but the Akotsk cast are genuine? Is it because the latter are all men?
Yes, anon, that is precisely what I meant. You’ve cracked the case.
Never mind that AKOTSK comes from material centered on knights, lords, and a princess, or that the people working on it appear more talented, more professional, more invested in the source, and genuinely pleased to be there.
The more interesting question is why you immediately reduced all of that to gender. What exactly is your issue with men, anon? That sounds rather prejudiced and hateful of you.
I was just thinking about how the guys from AKOTSK are always posting pictures of themselves hanging out at breweries together. Would the cast of HotD ever do anything like that? I couldn’t imagine them hanging out. The closeness all feels so performative.
Because most of it is manufactured for promotion.
I’m sure some HOTD cast members are genuinely friendly, but the ones constantly sold as inseparable rarely seem to spend time together once the cameras and press tours disappear. Olivia and Emma were marketed as best friends throughout interviews, yet outside that cycle they hardly appear to socialize at all.
That’s why nearly every relationship connected to this shitshow feels like another carefully packaged fiction, both on-screen and off. 🤣
