Anyone who brags about eating take-out food every night for weeks has got to be crazy. Rounding out my second week in a hotel has made me not want to order fast food, or even meals from the likes of places such as Macaroni Grill. Aside from outrageous portion sizes that you eat from three days, you just get tired of someone elses idea of what tastes good. Plus, where I'm at, Popeyes or Pizza Hut takes 2+ hours to deliver. You really have to plan ahead.
So, I've taken it upon myself to head over the the commissary and figure out what I can cook from my little kitchenette in the hotel. It was probably my third day when I realized I could actually cook in my room. (Remember, I've got some serious jet lag still.) My first prize winning meal cooked on a two-burner, countertop stove: Grilled cheese.
After that, I felt a little more daring and stepped up to cheeseburgers and eggs and bacon.
But then tonights specialty, pasta salad. This was a bit trickier since I realized I do not have a pasta strainer in my hotel room. Nor do I have any pot holders to prevent burns as I hold the lid tightly trying to drain the excess water. Overall though, I feel this was greatly successful.
Just a few more days and I'll be moving into my new apartment and the joys of hotel cooking will be behind me! I can't imagine what the families staying here are dealing with. I can hear the rooms full of toddlers and infants and do not envy them at all. This is the one time that I am happy I came by myself first. It would be horrible with all of us in a hotel right now!
