OTP: Hot Spot/Argent
Fandom: DC Comics/Teen Titans (2003 animated cartoon)
Hot Spot: As the son of a county judge, Hot Spot was always very interested in reading and science. He’s intelligent and studious, but he has a bit of a temper problem. Hot Spot loves animals and takes his role as a hero very seriously, feeling a sense of pride in being able to protect and serve.
Argent: Growing up as a spoiled rich girl, Argent used to be frivolous and shallow, only interested in parties and boys. Learning she was half-alien forced her to grow up and mature, though she still enjoys fashion and make-up and the finer things in life. Argent is level-headed for the most part, though she can be a bit overdramatic when she’s freaking out about something. She struggles with feeling isolated due to her alien nature and her father’s rejection of her over it. Nevertheless, she becomes a skilled and effective hero in her own right.
Together: Hot Spot and Argent got along well as friends, often confiding in each other and talking through their worries and anxieties about being heroes. They never really got a chance to explore their feelings for each other but they had a quiet, understated friendship that was very sweet.
How I Got Into The Fandom: See Robin/Starfire’s entry.
When I Started Shipping Them: Argent was my favorite Honorary Titan and I really wanted to ship her with someone. While exploring and experimenting with a few different cracky options I read up that she and Hot Spot had been on the same team together in the comics. And my brain basically went, “Oh HO, they have history together eh? I can work with this.” I read the three or four fics that existed for them at the time and just sort of fell in love with the possibility, leading to me basically becoming the captain of the ship and the main content provider because fandom for them is tiny and refuses to exist without me.

Why I Love Them: I don’t even know if I can articulate it, I just think they’re very sweet and I love the potential they have and they can fit very easily into some of my favorite relationship dynamics.
Three Favorite Moments:

1. Got your back.
The Titans have crash-landed in a very weird and kinda creepy redneck town in the middle of nowhere. As they’re following the locals into town, Hot Spot falls back and confides in Argent that he doesn’t really feel comfortable around these people. Argent admits that she feels the same, and Hot Spot promises he’ll be right there for her if things get hairy.
2. Flirty bed.
Argent and Hot Spot have another conversation about how they’re adjusting and coping with hero life.
While alone together in her room. With her lounging on her bed. In a rather skimpy nightdress.
Hot Spot tries very valiantly to keep his composure.
3. Comforting hand.
It’s just a single panel and they’re not even the focus of the shot but I absolutely love Hot Spot’s silent comforting of Argent with his hand on her shoulder, as they’re both grieving in the aftermath of Superboy Prime’s Infinite Crisis rampage.

Argent’s just got a cool character design (comics and cartoon let’s be honest) and she goes through a maturing arc where she sheds her prissy rich party girl trappings and grows up into a serious hero.

I don’t even think Hot Spot is popular enough to get paired with many people but if there’s some nasty creep trying to write him with Madame Rouge they definitely need to stay away from me.

Can I have some headcanons about Argent and Starfire's friendship? Pretty please?
These two would be such good friends don’t even deny it.
Argent is the best fashion/makeup adviser. Starfire’s constantly calling her for advice and tips and they’ll go through magazines together and assemble cute outfits/getups.
Starfire was so thrilled when she found out Argent was half-alien, even though Argent doesn’t have any lived experiences offworld. They can still commiserate about feeling out of place and like they don’t really belong on Earth.
They make a point to call each other every week and get together at least once or twice a month for a girl’s day.
Argent ships RobStar and Starfire ships Hotgent. They have been on double dates. :)
Argent made her own hero costume and because of her political connections has access to big name designers and textile labs so whenever Starfire is missing wearing something from Tamaran and doesn’t want to fly all the way there to go get it, she’ll give Argent a call and Argent will do her best to mock up some kind of close approximation of it for her.
Titans West stumbles across the H’san Natall on one of their space missions once. It was a floating Technocrat lab. They weren’t working on any abducted sleeper cell agents but Starfire still had to restrain herself from outright beating all of them to a pulp.
Argent has gone off on people creeping on Starfire.
Starfire links Argent to cute videos and memes all the time and Argent has to politely pretend she’s never seen them before so she can give the appropriate appreciative reaction.
Starfire becomes godmother to Argent and Hot Spot’s kids and they arrange playdates with Mar’i on a regular basis.
Top fave DC ships and notps?
Gonna probably be really boring and predictable with these, lol.
Dick/Kory is the obvious one, followed by Clark/Lois and Bruce/Diana (with a side order of Bruce/Selina). Also like Ollie/Dinah, Gar/Rae, Vic/Sarah, Isaiah/Toni, Eddie/Rose, and Mal/Karen. And Damian/Mar’i, both in a “precocious crush” sense and a “future power couple” sense, since they’re obviously a little too young to be having any serious relationship things going on.

NOTPs are also obvious–I don’t ship Batman with any of his kids and aside from maaaaaybe Tim/Steph?, I don’t ship the Batkids with each other either. Dick/Babs gets a special NOTP mention for being boring and stupidly written by terrible writers shitting on Titan history way too often for me to enjoy it.
Hero/Arch-nemesis ships are also universally Nope (Batman/Joker, Superman/Lex, etc).
Roy/Kory was a terrible idea and Jason/Kory pisses me off because THE ROBINS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE DAMMIT and also let’s face it I just do not have a good opinion about Red Hood And The Outlaws in general.
Superman/Wonder Woman will always be awful.
Raven/Anyone-She-Manipulated, gross, get that away from me.

…I’m trying to think if I’ve ever actually written the Upgrade itself, or just the aftereffects.
Wait… “Fire and Ice” definitely had an upgrade. (Hotgent ahoy!) And there’s quite a few in my original stories at least.
I think unless the relationship is the focal point of the story I just skip over the Upgrading part and have them already together.
