Today's Beer: Hott tots! The beer for people who like tater tots with chives and jalapenos (like I do)!
Hot Tots Recipe:
6.6 lbs breiss Sparkling Amber Liquid Malt Extract
1 oz. Willamette hops
½ pound of fresh-peeled potato skins
2 oz chopped jalapeno
½ pound breiss victory malt
1 oz chopped chives
Wyeast 1332 Northwestern Ale
Start heating 2.5 gallons water. Steep the victory malt for 15 minutes when your water is about 150 degrees F. When you are done steeping, bring your water to a boil. Add potato skins and liquid malt extract. Boil for 30 minutes. Add your hops and jalapeno! Boil for an additional 60 minutes. Add chives and immediately turn off heat. Stir for 5 minutes. Cool your wort, add it to your fermenter, and add additional 2 gallons of water. Pitch the yeast and wait two weeks to bottle!
Update 5/21/13:
I just popped the first one of these and hoo boy, this might just be the best beer I've ever brewed! A subtle jalapeno in the nose, an amazingly crispy malt and just a HINT of chives at the finish! Admittedly, the potato flavor didn't really come through, so I'd try using more potato skins if I were to make this beer again, but I don't think the beer is any worse off for it. Also let me take this time to say that the Breiss Amber Malt Extract is AMAZING. I have never brewed an unsatisfactory brew with it, I think its the best malt extract on the market today. There is no way this beer isn't going to WIN THE ANDERSONVILLE HOMEBREW COMPETITION!
Update 5/24/13:
This beer achieved a very close second place in the Andersonville Homebrew Competition. First place got 18 votes, Hott Tots got 17 votes. :(
