House 10: Purpose
The 10th House has a lot to unpack - career, reputation, ambition, social status, authority, honor, power, popularity, success, fame, command, royalty, dignity, professional or outer selves, parents, leaving the nest, and more.
Career and reputation are what interests' people the most about this house, but you cannot forget the 10th is connected to the 4th, it’s opposite but also an echo of what the 4th is about. The 10th speaks about how our parents raised us to be part of society, how we can stand on our own without them, how we are socially conditioned, and how we ultimately reach out to the world outside of ourselves for acceptance and approval.
The 9th House is of Meaning but the 10th is of Purpose. It is what makes us feel part of society, the world. At the 10th’s heart we need to remember this. I used to interpret career-oriented charts and while this information is useful, I sometimes tried to remind clients that you need to follow your heart and/or passion. If you find purpose in your career you are lucky, that is amazing, but not everyone needs to find purpose in work.
Those with personal planets in the 10th House need to be careful of being too hard on themselves in terms of family or societal pressures. Also planets in this house can give way to great insight into what gives their life meaning. Many point to Jupiter in the 10th as the “fame placement”, but Jupiter here can also light a path to just following what makes one happy, content, or fulfilled. Mars in the 10th gives one drive and ambition towards "purpose", Neptune helps people see behind the curtain.
