Ben & Meag’s retired prison bus, converted to a home, was a real labor of love. First, they had to get rid of the prison vibe, so they chose a bright blue and painted it themselves.
They used bursts of color, a few industrial accents, and some farm vibes. They also used many reclaimed materials.
They didn’t need a fussy kitchen and use a portable gas cooker. The counter top is made from reclaimed barn board.
The table is old butcher block and they made the 2 little stools.
The table folds down when not in use- they wanted as much uncluttered space as possible.
The wood stove is the centerpiece and sits on a piece of granite, surrounded by bricks.
Their dog has the coziest bed in the house.
They kept the locking prison cage doors and placed the sleeping nook against them. They didn’t make a separate bath, the composting toilet and tub are tucked in front of the bed.
The tub is unique, and it does have a shower wand, too.
After 2 yrs. of work, they were finally able to move in permanently.

This DIY skoolie conversion is very unusual. I still don’t fully understand how they cover the bus w/another structure.
It looks like a zen combination of hippie & hobbit.
The stove is stunning and it’s also a heater.

And, here it is, with it’s new upper tier covered in cedar shakes.
It’s like a little rustic cabin, and the sky light was a great idea.
