Summary: House gets jealous by a certain article of clothing you're wearing
Warnings: petty/jealous House (aka the best kind), heavily implied poly House x reader x Wilson in case that's not your thing, very mild and brief swearing
A/N: based off a random little thought I had. don't ask me when during the show this is supposed to be set because I have no clue
It was missing. Wilson's McGill sweatshirt was missing, and House was very upset. It was his turn to wear it, and although he could've sworn he left it balled up on his side of the bed before he left for work it wasn't there when he returned.
The thought popped into his head that someone might've stolen it, but that was just stupid. After all, who would break into his apartment just to take a sweater?
You, apparently, as he soon came to realize when combing back over his place to look for it. He hadn't noticed it on you at first when he walked in, but now it was hard to miss, like a bright red target painted across your chest.
He almost glared at the way you were casually lounging on the couch, reading a book as if you hadn't stolen from him. "You're wearing his sweater." It wasn't a question, rather a statement, which made sense due to how very obvious the fact was.
You looked up from where you'd been reading and gave him an unimpressed look. "And you walk with a cane. Tell me something I don't know."
The corners of his lips quirked upwards into an amused half smile, but he tried to push his fond thoughts of you to the side for the time being. "You know, it's my turn to wear his sweater."
Letting out a hum, you dropped your eyes back down to the book in your hands and lazily turned the page. "Technically, it's my turn, after you decided to hide it for three weeks so I couldn't wear it."
That was true, he did do that. It was for no reason other than to mess with you, but now he was really started to regret his past decisions, something that rarely happened, if ever.
"You stole it from me, right out of my very own bed," he tried a different approach, putting on a face of mock hurt and offense in hopes of swaying you and getting it back. "Shame on you."
"You stole it from me first." Damn it, you had him there. "I was just returning the favor."
House stood there in front of you for a few minutes more hoping you'd somehow break with no such luck. Sighing loudly, he flopped down in his armchair, giving you a dirty look. "You know, two wrongs don't make a right."
You glanced up from your book, peeking at him from over the top of it. "An ethics lecture coming from you of all people? Well, this oughta be good." Now, it was your turn to be amused, something that didn't bode well with his competitive nature.
Seeing as it wasn't going to happen any other way, he tried a more direct approach in order to get you to give it back. "I want it. I want to wear it. It's mine."
"Technically, no, it's not. It's Wilson's, and I'm borrowing it," you pointed out, appearing unbothered by the evil look getting thrown your way. "Go find something else of his to wear if it's upsetting you so bad."
"I don't want to wear something else, though," he whined obnoxiously, trying to get on your nerves. It was working, but not nearly enough to get him what he wanted.
"Tough, because I'm wearing it right now. You're just going to have to deal with it."
Part of you thought that maybe you'd won this argument when he got up and left the room, but that thought was soon diminished when he came back less than a few minutes later, throwing something at your head.
"Really?" You asked in obvious irritation while pulling the shirt he'd thrown at you off your head.
"Put that on, and give me the sweatshirt back. That way you'll still feel all cozy and close to your doting boyfriends without having to wear that specifically," he reasoned as he stood there, his hands resting on the top of his cane. He looked proud of himself, like he was a little kid who'd finally solved a puzzle.
Despite your annoyance, it was hard to keep the slight smile off your face. Still, you weren't going to let him win that easily. "I'm not wearing it because of sentimental value. I'm wearing it because it's comfortable."
He groaned loudly, becoming visibly annoyed. "Why must you always be so damn difficult?"
"Funny, I could ask you the same question," you muttered as you held up the shirt and took a good look at it. It was one of House's old band tees, which made you realize something. "Hold on, are you jealous because you don't get to wear the sweatshirt, or is it because I'm wearing Wilson's clothes and not yours?"
The obvious pout on his face quickly gave away the answer. "Just give me the sweatshirt now, and I'll promise I'll give it back later." He held his hand out expectantly, resulting in you throwing his shirt back at his face.
"Nice try, but you're going to have to pry this off my cold, dead body." You settled back into the couch with your book as he walked away, grumbling under his breath. It appeared as though you'd won the battle, for now at least.
End notes: I've never written for House before but I tried to capture his personality the best I could! Hope y'all liked the Hilson references sprinkled in lol

i was wondering if you could write a part two to the attached house fic. maybe have the reader and house foster and adopt the kid. you don’t have to write this, but much appreciated if you do 😘🫶
Jumpscare . . . Forgot about that fic, one of my more embarrassing ones? Of course, I will do a part 2, as you asked for it, dear anon! ദ്ദി≽(◝ ⩊ ◜マ≼
[Male reader] [Supposedly reader is a yearner and has a forbidden romance with House?] [I don't like that fic very much . . .]
Short fic!!! Apologies!!! I am busy with things (´。_。`)
There is a bit of a tinyyy time skip, House and reader are fostering the kid to see how she responds to living with the pair,,, if all goes well; they might adopt the child permanently.
~
"Hey sweetheart", House mumbled groggily, in his sarcastic tone he seems to always hold. He leaned his head against yours, which you responded to by kissing his cheek.
"Good morning, my love...", you mumbled, cooking some scrambled eggs and bacon for your new little bird and House.
"Mmmm, is the little one awake?", you whispered, House hummed; he left for a few seconds, which you then started to hear the comforting little clink of his cane, you turned around to see House entering the kitchen once more, now with little Grace holding his hand.
"Papa!!! Ehehehe!!", she giggled as you lifted her in your arms, turning off the stove and serving their plates; she gripped softly onto your chest.
"A-Am I papa now?...ah...that's nice.", you mumbled, much to House's amusement.
"Mhm!", little Grace responded, the joy on her face made you smile; you'd never thought of yourself adopting a child, but with Gregory House and little Grace in your arms . . . you think you'll do a good job.
"....Can you put down your gameboy and set the table, dear?...", you grumbled, House sighed and started setting the table; while Grace stole House's gameboy and scrambled onto the couch.
When a House fic author's note is like "House might be a bit ooc sorry" and you're like "this is fine, slightly more emotional than in canon but go on" and is good, but then he has a "friend" and its NOT Wilson but someone else and suddenly don't I find it believable anymore 😅 I imagen he has co-workers, people he studied together with, people he plays poker with, drug dealers, hookers, ex-partners of both genders, people he grew up with, but all of them are just people he knows or once knew, and that's of course a scale, but the only person he actually would call a FRIEND is Wilson (maybe also Cuddy, but it's a maybe depending on the au I guess), that's what I think at least... Hehe
any tips for how to write house fic? i want to start but i have no idea how to get the characters' voices right
this is very subjective (and long), but here are my thoughts
I would write/draft/edit a lot of my Hilson fics with this video playing to the side, so I can hear their voices as I'm writing (it really reminds you how silly and earnest they can be). to get their voices right, I'd always turn to canon rather than other fanfics
remember that you don't need to make the same kind of frequency of edgy jokes as in the show - to me, it'll be a lot more clunky to read someone trying to make mildly offensive jokes every other line compared to someone who just leans into other aspects of the characters instead (and also comedy is very hard to write well and very easy to write badly)
also, I feel like House usually makes offensive jokes as a distraction from something. Maybe he doesn't want to answer a question or he's avoiding a topic, then he'll say something edgy to distract the person he's talking to. He doesn't necessarily say something offensive just because
most characters in this show are allergic to saying how they feel or what they want. so much of the tension comes from the things they're not saying, so (especially with shipping fics) the dialogue is almost exactly the opposite of what the internal monologue is. they love to dig themselves into a hole and are doomed to never get out (until they're basically forced to). drag it out, make the reader desperately wish these idiots would just TALK to each other, don't let it happen to easily. find the thing that they want, and don't let them say it out loud
and then some general fic writing advice:
I'd try to avoid one character talking more than like 3 sentences in one chunk of dialogue. people always interrupt each other and it feels unnatural to be monologued at (or if they are doing a House-esque monologue, you can cut away every couple of lines to show the reaction of whoever he's talking to, or some physical action or whatever)
read. read fanfics and books and anything else you can. reading fanfic familiarises you with the conventions of fanfic (and what sort of things you should tag), and reading books will help language conventions seep into your brain until you can just sorta feel when something's right
I promise it's not clunky or awkward to repeat a character's name a whole bunch. we don't need to read about any "blue-eyed man" or "the taller man" or "the diagnostician" instead of just "House". Also generally, whenever you use a pronoun, readers are gonna assume it applies to the last noun you mentioned, so if you're talking about House, you can just keep repeating "he" until you mention another character, and then just keep doing that
for sex scenes or kissing or anything physical, focus more on the feelings of what's happening than the detailed choreography of what their bodies are doing (which can feel clinical and detached if you do too much of it). and the generic advice of writing about different senses and concrete details
learn about filters and try to avoid them. filters are basically when the reader is seeing an action through the perception of the character instead of just seeing the action - like saying "he heard the door slam" (with filter) vs "the door slammed" (no filter). filters make your reader more distanced from the character and imo makes it less impactful. plus, if you avoid them, it means your sentences aren't all starting with "they heard X. they felt X. they saw X."
you can probably cut the first few paragraphs of your first draft. if your story is about House being an absolute menace to Wilson, you don't need to start with a few paragraphs of "Up until now, Wilson was having a good day. He [description of his morning so far]. And now he was lying on the floor in a puddle of what had better not be House's piss" (or whatever). Just start with Wilson falling or having just fallen into the piss pile (or equivalent)
unless you're going for fancy poetic prose, if your writing is good, it will fade into the background. the ideal situation is that someone leaves and doesn't even think about your writing being good, because they were too engrossed in the story. bad writing stands out a lot more than good writing
and finally, as always, writing fanfic is for fun - don't stress too hard about writing it perfect. you're not getting paid to do it, so do whatever you want. I think you should learn the writing rules and why they exist before you break them, but I'm not gonna force you to do that
House still limps through the halls with Vicodin in his pocket and his usual attitude.
Wilson still deals with said attitude.
Cameron clings to her principles, even as they melt in the heat.
Foreman tells himself he's above it all. The patients, the drama, House, but he never walks away.
And Chase? He's still hoping someone might look past the pretty face and find something worth keeping.
To ease the ever-flowing caseload, Cuddy has to find a new hire.
As rare diagnoses test their limits, something deeper starts to unravel.
Fondness, feelings, regrets..

Title: Stuck on the Road, Far Away from You.
Author: @deantestines / wirefins
Rating: Teen and Up | Word Count: 3,443
As a part of our WIP Wednesday celebration in the Fan Fiction Writers of the SPN Fandom, the winner has the option to have a fic read and reviewed. This month's winner was @deantestines | wirefins (deanthropy), and the selected fic is Stuck on the Road, Far Away from You.
This fluffy story features a rare pair who you might be skeptical of at first, but after reading this, you might be whistling a different tune. I absolutely love how well Dean and House mesh together. Also, how they understand one another, even when they don't know much about each other.
Dean goes looking for a one-night-only kind of company, only to find so much more in a pair of blue, tired eyes. After the mystery man buys him a proper drink and tells Dean to call him House, their conversation is interrupted by a phone call, which has the older man rushing out of the bar.
When things go wrong on a hunt, Dean gets another chance at getting to know the man that he can't seem to get off his mind. At the hospital, he learns that House has formed an interest in him and can't help but wonder why.
Before it's time to pack up and hit the road again, the eldest Winchester finds himself sitting at the same bar, looking for the same blue eyes he found the first time there.
The bittersweet ending nearly broke me and has me wanting more of these two!
