#house problems

Hello, everyone! I'm sorry to say that my fics and posts in general might be a bit slow for the next few days, because my house is currently being torn up. 🙃 For the past two days, the sewage pipes have been backing up into my basement, which no joke almost caused me to faint. I do not handle stuff like that very well.

For the most part, I've been handling all of this by myself and it's been pretty exhausting. I called a plumber and they came in to look at my pipes, but they couldn't see anything due to the level of corrosion. My house is nearly 70 years old and the pipes are even older. So I had a team come in and replace the entire system under my house (which cost a fortune 😭), which means my basement floor was jackhammered and ripped up. Once the new pipes were installed, in went the camera and we found the blockage.

Rocks. 🙃 A ton of them. Unfortunately, the blockage is outside the house, right under my driveway. Try as they might, the team just couldn't water jet the rocks out, even after blasting them with 4000 PSI. They tried so hard, one guy nearly threw his back out struggling with the hose. So now my driveway also needs to be ripped up and new pipes need to be installed out there.

I am exhausted. I've had very little sleep and my body is sore from all the moving and heavy lifting, not to mention the panic attacks because 💸💸💸💸💸💸. My house is a mess, they blew a fuse while drilling, I'm having to stay with my aunt and uncle at night, and I'm behind on my job. But I'm trying to remain positive. I've made friends with some of the guys on the team and they even bought me a sub and a frozen lemonade, which was very sweet (pun intended).

Y'know, one thing that I absolutely loathe about living in the South is the amount of cockroaches in summer. Like, if you're going to live in my house, at least pay rent.

Spiders, however, are completely welcome. They take care of mosquitoes and other unwanted pests so they kind of already "pay rent" in the form of favours.

In unrelated news, our upstairs AC broke again. Send ice. Or fans. Or an electrician.

This weekend has been fun!

Meaning it actually hasn’t. Half of the electricity in my house just stopped doing what it was supposed to do. We had a guy come in on Saturday to pretty much tell us in more eloquent terms “you’re fucked” and that he would come back Tuesday with a price and fix it.

He hasn’t returned my mom’s calls to know when or whatever but that’s another thing.

What I DO know is that it needs to be rewired. Mostly for my part of the house (which is the cobbled together job that it was). Either way minimum is going to be $2.5-3k

Aaaaand my roof is leaking

Shitshitshitshitshitshitshiiiiiit!!!

Ok ok, so the inside for the most part, the house I live in is normal. Few cracks here and a few wall dents there, maybe a busted window or two (not shattered, the top window just refuses to close anymore), but nothing to worry about. Perfectly habitable. But when you get to the back room....

No ceiling. Exposed fiberglass insulation. Exposed support beams. Severe cracking of walls and ceilings in the hall towards the back room. Chipping drywall. No floorboards, only exposed plywood and a long rug. An old water heater that bubbles every time you use the hot water. Exposed wires.

It's just downright awful and very concerning.

Some house damage has been dealt here. A year or so ago, a small stool toppled over and landed on a water pipe, breaking it open and causing water to flood that area. Luckily I was able to get it under control and it's fixed. But not without the water I couldn't dry up sinking into the house, potentially causing damage or mold.

But that's not the focus. The focus is the ceiling. So today it was raining. A lot. I figured it was a normal day of rain, nothing going bad.

Then I heard water drips from inside the house.

I follow the sound and I'm led to the water heater. The big metal pipe to the ceiling is dripping with rain water and some water drops independently from behind the insulation.

And when it started to pour, more water dripped in.

I was able to at least stop the water in its tracks by putting towels on top of the water heater do the water doesn't hit the floor (which I feel is a SERIOUS fire hazard, but I had no choice).

The main reason for this problem is that our roof tiling is practically destroyed. We had to clean up roof shingles all over the yard over the years. No one gave a shit enough to get it fixed, and I certainly can't afford it. Legally, it's not even my house, it's my mom's!

I've been worrying about this all day. But now another worry just popped up.

Black mold.

Even if we fix this, there's still a very high chance of black mold growing in the house due to damp wood.

Plus there's evidence that the ceiling in some places is starting to cave in from water damage.

This house is dangerous. I have to move out. I need to for my own safety. I'm trying to look for low-income apartments, but it'll take a long time to get one. Plus affording one in this climate is a shit circus already. Also, I have no car.

And everyone here is going 'aw please stay it'd be a shame if you left us' and my mom would trap me in a basement to prevent me from moving out if she could (we don't have a basement).

I can't live in a house that could hurt me or my cat. I can't live in a house that has exposed shit and fire hazards. I just can't.

But I'm stuck right now and I'm trying to form a plan, but coming up short. I don't know what to do.

So this happened. My boiler stopped working and we definitely need it replaced. It’s getting warmer but once the weather gets cold again we’d still be without a boiler. We’ve had problems with it for years and I just thank God my grandpa’s not home right now.

I already try to contribute to the house but I have no idea how long it’d take to help save enough money to replace the boiler. Even my tax return would just cover like a tenth of what we need.

I can’t ask you guys for money but I would really, REALLY appreciate reblogs and sharing this wherever to help.

I don’t want to get into detail, but my house is so bad at this point that it’s probably really bad on my physical health and is bordering on hoarder territory.

If the bedroom floors were finished we could move some shit back where it belongs, but we can’t finish the floors because mom won’t do it herself because she doesn’t know what she’s doing (and I won’t do it for the same reason but it’s her house and I would help if she just fucking started it already) and we can’t get someone to do it for us because of money but mostly because the house is filthy and mom is too embarrassed to let anyone see it which I totally get

I’m willing to throw things away but I never know if a paper is important or not, and she keeps saying she’ll take this or that to school, and we’re always talking about doing a garage sale, but it just never happens!!!

I know I’m part of the problem because I let trash pile up, it takes forever for me to get around to the litter box, and I let clutter pile up in my areas, but at the same time mom is also the problem and it just feels like she thinks none of it can possibly be her fault because she actually does things like dishes and laundry and she has a job as a teacher but like. If you see the trash needs out and I haven’t done it why are you allowing it to get worse and just ignoring it until I finally get to to days later? I’m not saying she should take care of everything, I know I need to do shit, I’m just saying she also has a problem even if it’s not as bad as my problem and it really feels like she blames me for the whole situation and has just given up!!!

I know part of me has given up, but another part is determined to make money somehow and get a professional cleaner up in this bitch and someone to do the goddamn floors so mom can stop sleeping on the couch and I can find all my shit that’s hiding downstairs again.
