OMG the Tachonis children are named after the 8 bones of the neurocranium

1 frontal bone

1 ethmoid bone

1 sphenoid bone

2 parietal bones

2 temporal bones

1 occipital bone

Since they're in a 3-dimensional space there isn't necessarily a common "order" they are listed in, but occipital bone is the furthest lower back of the skull, and I've arranged the list above in roughly "front to back" which does place Ethrand as 2nd and Occtis as 8th.

So the "occ" in Occtis is not dressing up "Oct" or any 8-related meaning, it's fully just referencing occipital. Occipital means "back of the head" from the Latin Ob (in back of) + Caput (head). The word part ob can also mean "in the way of, against," (see: obstruction) and it's probably unintentional but fun that this source for Occtis's name can also be translated to "against the head" as in, Occtis rebelling against the head of his House.

Referencing the bones of the skull is SUCH a fun goth vibe for house Tachonis and their necromancy (even as I have to laugh at the idea of like... "and this is my cousin, Distal Phlanges").

The truly impressive thing about House Tachonis is somehow they're always more fucked up than you think. I'll be like, oh, abusive father, creepy necromancers, sadism, vivisection, I gotchya, I know the tropes. And then its like, oh no, daddy only hates *some* of his kids cause he's not a monster. The creepy twins aren't just cruel and codependent, they're explicitly turned on by sibling-on-sibling violence and plain old Alabama-style sibling-on-sibling. They don't simply construct undead hulk abominations from their enemies, they also leave said abominations lying around their house for people to accidentally stumble upon. Not only will they kill misbehaving family members, they have a hole in the family crypt specifically dedicated to storing the resultant corpse bits. The underworld is attached to the basement of their *checks notes* summer home, with doors in the crypts and ALSO THE FUCKING KITCHEN?!? WHAT IN CASE THEY NEED A QUICK BITE WHILE SUMMONING THEIR UNDEAD HORDES? EXCEPT WE LEARN THEY SUMMON THEIR HORDES IN A RANDOM FUCKING ROOM TWO DOORS DOWN FROM THE GUEST BATHROOM APPARENTLY. SO WHY ARE YOU DOING IT LIKE THIS PRIMUS? WHY?!

I find it so funny that the Tachonises continue to be WILDLY incompetent with their evil plans. They put all their eggs in the one basket of 'Turn Occtis Into an Angelic Warrior Slave and Make Him Obliterate Our Enemies', and when that didn't work, they had to improvise. And they're doing it SO badly.

The ritual didn't work, Occtis got resurrected, and Aranessa and Julien got away. And with the Royce Gala coming up the very next day, they had to scramble to clean up the crime scene and present plausible evidence for the Royce/Davinos disappearing because they went back to Faerie. Leave behind a key component and piece of evidence about the ritual (the candle) where the Schemers could easily find it and use it to expose your plans.

Meanwhile, Aranessa and the Seekers are at Castle Klippenblicke, thoroughly exposing the crimes of House Tachonis to a rival Sundered House. Petra and Ryah visit the Einfasens, presumably to either give another cover story or eliminate the Seekers and any Einfasens who saw them. Fail to catch the Seekers. Also royally piss off the local druid circle by mounting an attack on one of their own in range of their sacred grove.

Then the illusionist they hired to help cover up the massacre at the Palazzo Davinos, who they presumably were planning to just kill and be done with, escapes. Demodus Blix manages to evade them so effectively that they have to frame him for stealing heirlooms from their house to get the Arcane Marshals to help look for him. Because, damn, who would've thought that the best illusionist in the city would be good at HIDING????

They may be incredibly powerful, scary sorcerers, but in every other possible way, they're fumbling the ball SO HARD. No wonder they keep getting all their plans foiled by these ragtag groups of level 3 adventurers. 😂
