Congressman Ro Khana, a California Democrat, pressed Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods on Thursday to acknowledge the false statements advanced by one of his predecessors, the erstwhile Exxon CEO Lee Raymond, who made false statements over the connection of fossil fuels to global warming before his 2005 retirement, refuting his own scientists’ research. “I really don't want to dwell on the past, but in the spirit of giving you the chance to turn the page for the company, I assume you would acknowledge that Mr. Raymond’s statement was a mistake and the company regrets it, correct,” Khana asked. Woods refused this opportunity saying, “Mr. Raymond’s statement was consistent with the science.”
