New Regional Housing Allowance rate for civil servants soon
KUALA LUMPUR, March 26, 2015:
A new Regional Housing Allowance (EPW) rate will be announced soon, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
He said this was to reduce the burden of civil servants from Sabah and Sarawak working in the peninsula and vice versa.
“We (government) will announce this change as soon as possible … two, three months more or in the near future.”
He said this when winding up on the debate on the speech of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the department at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said the allowance rate had not been reviewed since 2002.
In the meantime, he said the review of the fixed allowances of members of Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat was being listed for second reading.
“As such, any consideration to raise the allowances of Members of Parliament will be implemented after being approved by Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.”
Commenting on calls by Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) immediately investigate 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), Shahidan said PAC would act after the report of the Auditor-General was tabled.
He said the National Audit Department was currently carrying out an audit of 1MDB before submitting it to PAC.
“As such, PAC will act after the audit report is tabled. So, I think it is not so logical to ask PAC to hold a meeting without the audit report,” he added.
