How did hoverboards start? Are hoverboards real? Hoverboard was actually inspired from the movie, “Back to the Future”. This movie was filmed in 1989, where Michael J. Fox and his girlfriend are dashed into the future to the year 2015. In the movie, this levitating board came from a fictional scooter (with a handle), where the protagonist was running away from the ones chasing him. Suddenly, he grabbed the little girl’s scooter and broke the handle to use it; just like a flying skateboard. It is so amazing that the fictional self-balancing scooter is real now.
