People always compliment me when they see me lettering by hand, expressing how impressed and daunted they are by the act. I usually just take the compliment, but really, it's not too hard of a skill once you know what you're doing.

So as someone with terrible handwriting, I thought I'd share a couple pages from How Comics Work by Dave Gibbons and Tim Pilcher, Which offer some good advice on how to tackle the mentality around lettering by hand. (Also my first lettering attempts were based very much on the font displayed on the right-hand side.)

If you're following along you probably know I'm deep in the Marvel comics for the first time in my life. Not content to just read, I've taken my love of writing and arting and started making my own comics. My first attempt is ongoing and has been an awesome learning experience. I picked up this book, How Comics Work by Dave Gibbons and Tim Pilcher the other day and it's inspired me to start something new, and do it right. I've taken one of my short fan fics up on AO3 and done some storyboarding for it. I can't wait to start. Here's a sneak peek!
