How to pretend like you can design

I love pretty things but unfortunately I do not really know how to design from scratch. Fortunately, there are (FREE!) websites available to help me so these are my 3 favorite tools:

1. Canva: https://www.canva.com

Canva is a site full of online tools for creating graphics and designs. Bryan first introduced this to me last year and I love it! Super easy to use and pretty. Just a preview of what they have:

They have ready templates so you can just customize it to your preferences. Did this Christmas card in just 5 seconds since I only needed to change the name

Other than cards, you can design slides/fb posts/ marketing collaterals etc. There is also a stream of designs uploaded by other individuals where you can get inspiration.

2. Piktochart: http://piktochart.com

This is a site that allows you to create infographics (like those you see on Visually), reports, presentations (on pdf), and banners. Screenshot of some of the free themes below:

The free themes are limited so if you need more for work, you can sign up for a pro-account ($29/month or $290/year). Aunties do not like paying so basic is enough for me.

I usually use this website for the many icons they have! Print screen and add into my slides to break the monotony of words, or add into my canva design if canva does not have the icons I want.

3. Howaboutorange: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.sg/

How About Orange features DIY tutorials, decorating ideas, printables, fonts, and design resources. I used to visit this website a lot but Jessica has since stopped updating :/ Nonetheless, still a good website to visit when you need (free) wallpaper/background designs (I download them and use on Canva).

One useful website that I discovered through Howaboutorange is http://www.myowlbarn.com/p/owl-lover-2014-calendar.html. This allows me to customize my own calendar with owl-designs (1 each month) by various artists.

Feat. my office desk with the owl calendar at the left hand side (I only feature 2 months each time and update it periodically).
