. . Tony Azito (July 18, 1948 – May 26, 1995) was a dancer and character actor who died of AIDS in New York City. He was 46 years old. . Born in Spanish Harlem, New York City, Azito studied drama at @juilliardschool and worked with John Houseman (1902 – 1988) @theactingcompany. Houseman would later recall in his autobiography the time he discovered that Azito had had his @juilliardschool student I.D. photo taken while in full drag. Azito also studied dance with Anna Sokolow (1910 - 2000) and mime with Moni Yakim. . In the 1970's, Azito performed cabaret at #RenoSweeney on West 13th Street and the Ballroom. In 1980, he was nominated for @thetonyawards and received a #DramaDesk Award for his role in “The Pirates of Penzance” — he later appeared in the movie version. Azito also spent 4 years with @lamamaetc. His film credits included #HowardBrookner’s (1954 – 1989) Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989) starring @madonna, @mattdillon and @jennifer_grey. He also roles in “The Addams Family” (1991) and “Moonstruck” (1987) starring @Cher.
