Hey y'all! I'm very new to this app and I'm gonna be reblogging some stuff like textposts and relatable shit, memes or whatever. This is also gonna be my rant zone for my daily life because. why not. anyhoo. it's so funnnn let's get started.

I’m re-reading the hunger games at the moment and I’ve just got to the third one but it hurts so much more this time. I never fully appreciated the effect of peeta’s kidnap from the arena on Katniss. She finally accepted that she could feel something for Peeta on the train to the capital and this was because she would accept no alternative other than him getting out of the games and her sacrificing her life for him. So when he is then taken from her- the one person she allowed herself to love back (except Prim and perhaps her mum at the end)- and then he was turned against her, used as a weapon! It was heartbreaking. Add in the fact that he was the one that taught her what it meant to become your own person, to truly not be a part of their games, and that that was the way she thought he was going to end up- either being killed as a weapon against her, or kill her as weapon for the capital- and you have a completely effective torture by Snow.

Peeta was the first person she ever let truly love her that wasn’t part of her family. So when he was taken away from her, it was like she had lost everyone’s love.

The first few times I read it I assumed subconsciously that she knew she would get out because she’s Katniss Everdeen and she survives everything, but she didn’t! She never saw herself, truly, as anything other than a girl that got lucky- until perhaps the last bit of the third book. That’s why it was so awful for her to recover from after they got her out, because she had programmed every action towards helping Peeta survive that she didn’t know how to help herself or anyone else survive.

I think the reason it took so long for me to see this was because I watched the films first so, to me, Katniss was always a 20-something year old because that’s how Jennifer Lawrence looked. But she not. She was 16 in the first games and 17 in the second! She was still so young herself and she should be seen that when people evaluate her actions.
