Howie B. turned up at the studio with all his gear (to my surprise - I'd just imagined a chat). Fortunate that he did, because we made some nice things together. Howie's mixes: baffling - some completely uninteresting (to me), then the occasional perfect gem. I think he has a completely different concept of what a record should be - for him a snapshot, for us a painting; for him a magazine article, for us a novel. A lot seems to hang on when you will listen, and how often - is it for life or is it a one-night-stand? If it's a one-night-stand, then you need maximum glamour and drama. If it's a relationship, you want emotional depth. Perhaps this requires partitioning the record.
