💋 + “So ‘tasha pointed out to me that you’ve been stepping out with Steve...”
ALMOST CHOKING ON HER DRINK , AMELIA NEEDED A BRIEF MOMENT TO CONCEIVE THE SUBJECT BUCKY TRIED BROACH . he must have been trying to fool her , using his chance to make fun out of totally flustered mutant . some people for sure had pierced them with intense looks ( mostly women though , considering that the captain seemed to be quite desired among the other guests ) , but amelia would have never allowed herself to ASSUME MORE THAN IT WAS . a service of friendship between two desperate souls not very drawn by the idea of attending a huge gala to show off themselves . ❛ this is ––––– ❜ , she mumbles in distress before shaking her head . ❛ you know that steve is MY FRIEND . he just asked me to join him because i ‘ d be much easier with some support at your side , right ? ? ❜ gaze wandering astray , sudden heat flushing into her cheeks . MYGOD . this wasn ‘ t really a rumor going around , was it ? ? ❛ don ‘ t make me freeze your beer , bucky . ❜

She thought it had been bad before--there had been aliens for Christ’s sake--but nothing prepared Rachel for this. As she’d been trying to organize the extra-human world left in shambles after the Council’s collapse, a new threat emerged: a fully awakened ley witch bent on destruction. For the first time, Rachel felt well and truly lost. It just seemed too big, too much. How was she supposed to stop this? Sitting with a small table of trusted allies, they’d come up with one solution. The Avengers were scattered. When you couldn’t turn to God, you walked with the devil.
She’d used a modified tracking spell to find him. She tried to think James Barnes and not The Winter Soldier, because that made him feel like a person and not a harbinger of certain death. This had to work. If it didn’t, she might not make it back. The world might not make it back.
The spell led her to Indiana. She’d driven there instead of taking a ley line, stretching out the trip even under the pressure of time. Driving was less likely to freak him out, if he even agreed to this at all. Navigating her Jeep into the parking lot a small auto shop, the corner of her mouth twitched. Funny they’d have mechanics in common.
Walking into the open bays, she found him working on a car. “Hello,” she called, acting casual, her hands in her back pockets. “I’m looking for somebody. Think you could help a girl out?”
Audrey’s fingers skimmed lightly around the buttons on the pad, but she didn’t dare touch them. When she heard Bucky egging her on a bit, she turned and grinned at him. “I’d better not. Knowing me, I’d find the one that’s an emergency ‘blow-it-all-to-hell’ button — and we’d all be doomed,” she joked, chuckling.
It was best if she didn’t go touching anything that she wasn’t familiar with until the rest of the team got back from the mission they were on — the one she was supposed to be on if she hadn’t gotten a leg injury. Everyone agreed it was best if she just stayed behind (but part of her also wondered if it was to keep an eye on Bucky). She didn’t really know him -- other than he was a long time friend of Steve’s — and oh, there was also the part where HYDRA had brainwashed him into a killing machine at one point.
Audrey turned on her crutches and began to hobble over to the sofa. “I can’t wait until I’m off these things.…” she said with a heavy sigh, sitting down next to the man. One more week of it and hopefully she’d be back to her old self again. Her eyes met his and she gave him small smile. “So how have you been holding up?”

The mechanical and electric noises were deafeningly loud from behind him. The HYDRA agents were shooting at him from behind the wall, but Steve looked up to see where they were. He had no idea what they were building - some sort of portal? It looked something like the tesseract’s portal had looked.
Steve was no expert, but if HYDRA had built it, he was sure it was bad. It had to be closed, and now. “Sam, can you cover me?”
“From here, yeah, but they hit me with an EMP. I’m grounded. Don’t go far.”
Steve nodded and ducked around the wall, hurling his shield at the control panel to fry the circuits. As he fought to take out the agents, the machine whirred, and bursts of light and - dirt - and rocks - and other things came flying through the portal. By the time Steve managed to kill the panel enough to shut the machine down, there was a pile of things debris that had come through. And a man.
He reached out a hand to help him up, unsure if he was dealing with a friend or foe. “You okay?”

𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞. “ would you like to walk with me, mr. barnes? “ her voice carries softly in the space between them, the trees of the woods have to lean to hear a word.
howlingsniper replied to your post: Total of people Roger’s has turned accidentally,...
“Keep it in your mouth.”
“That’s what he said.”
Tucked away in a less populated section of the World's Fair, there stood a recruitment office with a glass enclosed poster of a soldier with no face. Steve watched as men and women stepped on the pressured platform in front of the poster and their faces appeared in the empty space. He waited, hands thrust deep into his pockets, until the giggling girls and their dates had drifted away before stepping forward. His head did not even reach the top of the pictured collar, and he gave a sigh before stepping back and away.
The night slipped by like sand through his fingers. It was Bucky's last night, and he would have much preferred spending it together in their little apartment, but he couldn't deny Bucky's request of going to see all of the new technology. Not to mention, friends of theirs needed chaperons for their date. As the two girls ran off together hand in hand and Bucky followed behind with that smile on his face that made Steve's knees weak, Steve lingered behind them, feeling adrift. His eyes were scanning the crowd without really seeing it, and he might have missed the strange man entirely if he hadn't run directly into him.
“Sorry... I wasn't watching where I was going, I--” He paused, brows furrowing and lips pursing at the sight of the man's strange suit, which seemed to shimmer and fade away before his eyes. Blinking, he gave a shake of his head and took a step back, tilting his head to look up into the man's face.
“That was a swell trick.... my friend would like that get up of yours... he loves science fiction things like that.”
