How do you even begin to heal when your whole world has been broken? I can’t even imagine how you could heal from a divorce, an affair, losing a parent/child/lover, when you lose the person you thought would be by your side when you were both old and grey and slightly deaf.
Who else is also struggling with roof? My case is lack of talent but for everyone else, here is a video from James to help you
Life
sometimes I look at the overwhelming amount of life ahead of me and part of me wants to face it head on and deal with it in an organized manner and the other part of me just wants to fly off to Neverland

SAW gives you maximum resources and minimal bullshit. It’s small. It’s close. You are literally surrounded by comics. There’s no grades, no suffocating “I’m-the-teacher” hierarchy. What you get is professionals who have collectively mastered the whole range of comics, and a dozen other nerds to learn from them with.⠀ ⠀ #artschool #comics #howtolife ⠀ ⠀ You will crank out work faster than you ever have before. You will have three hour conversations about R. Crumb’s crosshatching. You’ll see things you didn’t think were possible. You won’t be able to go to sleep from all the ideas that keep coming to you. You will learn what it is like to be passionate and you will feel as if you can do anything. ⠀ ⠀ The worst mistake I made was to go back to college. I watched as a system slowly drained the life force that SAW had filled me with. It took me 2 years of hard struggle (and finally dropping out) to get back to the level of motivation and purpose I had at SAW. Thank God I’m back on that level now, and thank God for SAW. How To Life Chapter 58 - Theocracies
God Said I’m President Now, Bitch
Religion and politics go together about as well as hot sauce and a gaping anus. That’s just my opinion, but many nations in the world have, throughout history, believed otherwise. These governments, where the rule of law comes from whatever flavor of religion is popular in the region, is called a Theocracy. And it’s probably a bad idea.
Yeah, ok, like everything else, sure, if all of the possible variables are ideal, it can be great! If the religion of choice is one of the nice ones that promotes goodwill towards your fellow human beings and not throwing rocks at gay people, that’s awesome! If the leader(s) encourage people to be good (and the people actually listen), that’s also awesome! If everyone who happens to live in the nation happens to agree with whatever particular interpretation of whatever religion rules, well shit, things couldn’t get any better.
It probably makes it all the more shocking to find out that most of these criteria are not quite met by most Theocracies. The religion itself might be just fine, but as I’ve stressed before, good things being twisted for dark purposes is quite a common issue with humans. Most likely it’s going to be some asshole(s) sitting pretty as the supposed mouthpiece for god(s).
Some Theocracies will have a better time than others. Despite my flare for the dramatic and habit to be quite critical of religion, it doesn’t have to be absolute hell. At the risk of being redundant, Theocratic society can function just fine and even be successful in countless ways. Religion can, for better or worse, bring people together to accomplish all sorts of things. The problem for me is that I just see (and have seen) so many things that can so completely fuck it up right quick.
For starters, it doesn’t matter how much any religion has ever promoted peace and tolerance; some cock-goblins always come along and screw it up for everybody. And that assumes the religion was worth following in the first place. If some warped version of faith becomes the political backbone of a nation, people start dying. Governments and religion, on their own, each usually stride for good things. Yet what are people supposed to do if their government is their religion and their religion is fucking them sideways? Good question. I wish there was a good answer.
Another big problem is the leadership. Put simply, I just cannot trust anyone “appointed by god(s)” or whatever. Think about it this way; giving unlimited political power to anyone is scary, but doing so for someone who can try to justify whatever they do as god’s will doesn’t make things much more comforting. There’s way too much up in the air. They don’t need evidence or so much as a good reason for what they do, because whatever they say is representative of what god(s) want(s).
I have some trust in the populace to reject completely insane shit their leader(s) suggest or demand, but crossing said leader(s) is rarely a good idea. Like I said, most of the time, they’re going to be wielding alot of power, and can likely find other ways to “convince” people to see things their way.
Yet the population itself will almost certainly have problems as well. Religion can be quite influential when it needs to be. People can be lead into believing (and doing) horrible things in the name of whatever gods they worship. Of course, being religious does not in any way mean you’re unable to resist killing people who don’t believe whatever you do, but the fact remains that it’s something some groups will murder over.
The populace of a Theocratic society could very well be a great batch of humans overall. It could be a great batch of humans being exploited by their leaders for any number of reasons. They might be several smaller groups of humans battling amongst themselves to establish which specific flavor of religion gets on top. It can also be a group of previously good humans now hell-bent on destroying things that their faith doesn’t like (usually that includes people). I’m a fan of variety, but most of the possible outcomes of a Theocratic society tend to be somewhere between “meh” to “oh fuck everyone has lost their shit”. I’m not a gambler, but whatever benefits might come from letting religion rule, I absolutely don’t think the possible consequences are worth it.
PROS:
- Religion has done great things and can be a powerful tool for unity and progress
CONS:
- Religion has done awful things and can be a dangerous tool for division and holding back progress
- Way too much unchecked power to leadership from a source that we can’t really confirm with
- Politics are already divisive enough without adding religion to the mix
GENERAL RATING: God awful (heh). Any Theocracy may be as good as the faith that leads it. But generally, religion isn’t a good basis for structuring government. Most give way too much control to a person (or people) who don’t even have good justification for their actions. Manipulating people with what they believe in is a shitty thing to do. And god forbid if you’re an Atheist or otherwise practicing some other faith in a nation that doesn’t take too kindly to that. Very not recommended.
