I think my favorite Hozier moment is when someone asked on Twitter what he meant by “with the same sweet shook as when Adam first came” and he responded with “I figured he had quite the surprise on his hands” HELP

GUYS IS SO BEAUTIFUL WHAT THE FUCK
Hozier has a lot of raw fucking song lyrics but I think “when the man who gives the order is born next time round on the boat sent back” is probably his rawest
I mean the sense of karma the putting yourself in someone else’s shoes the justice the heartbreak in that line it gives me chills every time
#3 on my Spotify Likes!!!!! Be - Hozier
listen if he wont do it live i will. it wont have instrumentals and it’ll be fucking shitty, but i will
Just a message from your friendly neighbourhood history major about how much I love the song Be from Hozier’s new Wasteland Baby!
I know we’re all loving the line about the discovery of jacking off (and 10/10 for making that sound poetic af) my main love for the song comes in the second verse.
“ When the man who gives the order Is born next time 'round on the boat sent back When the bodies starvin' at the border Are on TV givin' people the sack “
I mean such a clear middle finger to the US government but let me tell you about this boat sent back.
This is MS St Louis a German ship that in 1939 carried over 900 Jewish refugees that were turned away. Cuba, The United States, and finally Canada all refused to take in the refugees. This escape attempt was so brutal it has become known as the “Voyage of the Damned and after being sent back to Europe historians believe that at least a quarter of the passengers were killed in Nazi concentration camps.
I find it brutal that in the past few years with family and friends I have had to bring up this boat time and time again and pose the scenario of what they would have done in that situation. All of them say that the government should have let the refugees in and saved them from their fate and yet these same people don’t give a shit about anyone seeking asylum now.
Anyway sorry that’s a long rant I just had to get it out there
TL;DR the world’s still fucked
The background “lover be good to me” in the chorus of Be makes me feral
Good Omens x “Be” (Hozier)
