Mahiru wandered around the campus (as was quickly becoming a regular thing for her), camera in the firm grip of her hands. Serene silence filled the air, interrupted only by the occasional click, click, click, of the shutter every so often. She’d wanted to take a picture of the scenery, familiarize herself with the place before class officially started.
And so, the photographer spent most of the afternoon like that, completely absorbed with her work—looking around to find a good view, taking photographs of the school’s lovely grounds. To be honest, Mahiru really rather preferred taking a portrait of somebody smiling. But if she took a picture of some random student without permission, they’d think she was a stalker—and she is most definitely not.
Her peaceful afternoon was almost spent in complete solitude. Almost.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spots a shadow creeping toward her. She doesn’t think that it’s an immediate threat, not when there could be serious repercussions if a student were to attack her. But still, it seemed a bit ominous, a single figure approaching her as the sun sets. Better safe than sorry, right?
Mahiru slowly turns around, and her gaze is met by a certain someone.
“You must be new here,”says a voice she doesn’t recognize, and she flinches.
