If anyone remembers the 'does anyone know that one problematic wof rp server' that was me, and I'm back again to respond to the comments. Yes, it was Talons and War. And yes, there are a lot of layers to this.

For context, the last time I was in this inbox I talked about how Talons and War (TaW), a server which is known for its incorporation of real-world cultures into the tribes. They claim to do this in a respectful/tasteful manner, but then go on to combine and oversimplify the cultures they wish to 'represent,' in addition to using tacky cliches and being insensitive about which topics they allow members to roleplay.

Here are my main points from last time. Not sure if I went into enough detail about it so I'm summarizing them again:

Hivewings' culture is labelled as 'Assorted African Tribes'

French Skywings have a baguette cult??

In the 'roles' option, Skywings and Nightwings (French Monarchy and Ancient rome) had slaves. As in, you had the option to roleplay as a slave. Did I say this one last time? i forgot. I may have not discovered it yet at the time of posting.

Most people didn't really give a shit about any of this stuff in the last anon thing, so I'll take the time to EXPLAIN why it's messed up (although I really would've thought no explanation was needed.)

Assorted African tribes? We all know African cultures have historically been oversimplified and watered down by western media, and we all know WHY (racism.) Seeing your friends genuinely believe 'Africa is a country and not a continent' isn't actually super different from seeing TaW bunch a variety of DISTINCT cultures into 'assorted african tribes.' like, hello?? Every other culture gets to be represented on its own EXCEPT 'Assorted african tribes?' The only other tribe which had two cultures were the Rainwings with Aztec/Mayan, which is also shady as hell.

The baguette cult is obviously an attempt at humor, and trust me when I say this one is far less frustrating than the other two points. Still, TaW shouldn't advertize 'tasteful representation' if they plan on degrading that by including cliches. Can you imagine if this was a cliche about Chinese culture? Dumpling cult? NOW it sounds bad. I could go on a whole tangent about WHY dumpling cult is way worse than baguette cult (hint hint, racism again) but my point about tasteful representation still stands. This is literally giving 'Vivziepop switching between treating SA like a serious topic and a joke' . Like why can't TaW seem to decide on whether or not they want to ACTUALLY admire and respect these cultures?

I don't understand why people are SO comfortable with the 'it's historical accuracy' excuse behind letting people roleplay LITERAL slavery. It's absurd. Nobody is trying to say it ISN'T historical accuracy, we're trying to say that RP servers should take the time and consider which topics they deem appropriate to be roleplayed. (Important difference: Not represented, representation is important.) ROLEPLAYED. Literally Anyone can join this server and decide they want to roleplay as a slave, no matter who they are and how much they actually know/disagree with slavery. Through 'historical accuracy,' TaW is creating a space where the sickest people you'll ever meet could create a character and roleplay out WHATEVER they want. And don't hit me with some 'ok but staff could supervise it to make sure it's okay' BS. It ISN'T okay at any capacity, and if they can sacrifice some accuracy to create a BAGUETTE CULT then they can disclude slavery.

Now, before you guys come for me (because I can smell it) i do think the concept of the server is awesome. i love the idea of integrating human cultures with WoF., and there is more I could talk about/explain with all of these points. This post is me venting frustrations I've had for a long time: I think it's absolutely insane that the server has been up and running, had content creators join/post FOR IT, reach 400 members and still not have a single callout. From what I see, the WoF community loves to preach about how cool and unproblematic they are......... but here we are.

There are so many different creators on this website/others who have managed to TASTEFULLY combine WoF with human cultures, whether that be through fashion, architecture or anything else. TaW seriously needs to take a look around and reflect on what their server is enabling. And maybe look into which different tribes they can find in Africa while they're at it, because I think it will surprise them to know there is more than 3.

🦢 What is Kyodo?

Kyodo is a social media that allows you to join 'Circles' of your interests or fandoms, create posts as well as 'personas' for your characters, and form chatrooms or roleplays with other users. It's an app that piggy backs off the ashes of Amino. From the Circles being Aminos, the interface being the same, and the posting format being so similar, it is very easy to mistake the two apps as the same. If you're an Amino Veteran (or self-proclaimed "Refugee"), you'll have no problem navigating the app and progressing quickly on the activity leaderboard.

🦢 Our Plan

We're not just trying to make another inactive fandom space where people post and disappear - or get overrun by character sales & adopts. Our goal is to build something alive - where people talk, create, and care about what's being said.

1. Establish a long-standing community-based roleplay — in order to bring the Circle closer (and to have some fun), there are plans in place to begin something the entire Circle can participate in. While small, we can still do fun things like this!

2. Hosting frequent art contests & giveaways for our Circle - more info below!

3. Highlighting active members – we want to give people a presence to make the community alive.

4. Establishing a good starting point to have ample room to grow – once there's a strong foundation, we'll expand further.

5. Highlight real discussions and real people – encouraging posts and conversations about lore, characters, and interpretations.

As stated prior, we aim to host frequent art contests and giveaways during our first few months active. While the contests will be hosted on many platforms, all submissions must be posted on the Warrior Cats Circle to grow a creative community!

Prizes are to be announced, but we're currently eyeing giving away 6-book box sets of different series under the Warrior Cats IP, various merchandise you can choose from the website, or the cash equivalent to the series you'd pick!
