tsukishima kei x reader note: you are in college; sharing an apartment
. . .
It was those kind of days when the world was totally against you.
The whole week started off badly, and it continued to do so throughout. Not once did something good happy to you this week.
One, you were 2 hours late for your first day at a restaurant due to fallen tree, from a recent storm, on the road. You had to take a detour around town just to get to the building. Which resulted to countless scolding, and a new job almost lost.
Two, a trip you’ve been looking forward to for 3 months with your brother was completely cancelled, also because of the storm that had just ended.
Three, your phone was stolen during your grocery shopping, and no one was even willing to help find the culprit. Anxiety kicked in, and you had a mental breakdown in the store.
On top of all that, you were extremely sick. Your body was completely pale, all the color drained from your once rosy cheeks. Because of fatigue, Trembling was evident and cold sweat ran down your skin. You wanted to sleep, but you couldn’t because of how uncomfortable you felt.
You tried to groan because of your pain, but your voice was too hoarse to even let out the tiniest sound, voluntarily.
I have to get medicine or something. Just something.
Your mind continued to encourage you in the smallest way possible, so you could grow a little bit of motivation to get food. And that did the trick. You slowly sat up from your bed, feeling a little light-headed, and propelling yourself using furniture around you as support, you proceeded to walk to the kitchen.
The hardest part of your tiny journey to that area of the apartment was going down the small set of stairs. Your shared apartment was tiny, yes, but it technically had 2 floors. And that was good enough. But not in this scenario.
After slowly, but surely, going down the stairs, you managed to get to the kitchen. You tried to remember where your roommate had stored the oranges slices, figuring that it would do the least bit of help to cure your aching head. But with all the thinking and extra effort you had done, your body couldn’t take it anymore, and so, your legs started to give in, making you fall and make a huge thud.
The boy hears the sudden sound from his room and he rushes out the door and into the kitchen to where he suspected the sound came from. His eyes widens at the sight of his roommate sprawled out on the floor, unconscious.
“(Your Last Name)!”
The latter was still asleep, your heavy breathing mixed with his anxious one filled the room. He carried you, carefully, and stood up from his position. He brought your figure to the black couch in the living room, laying your head on a pillow over his lap so you could feel comfortable. His eyes laid on you. Your arm had a visible bruise on it, due to your sudden contact with the floor earlier. He hoped you would wake up any minute.
And you did. That made him slightly relieved.
He heard you groan and whisper, “T-tsukishima..?”
“Thank God.. What happened to you? You never told me you were sick.” He asked whilst comfortingly rubbing your forehead, and your hair, feeling the heat that emitted from your body.
“I.. thought you wouldn’t care..” You said, faintly.
His eyebrows furrowed, Tsukishima sighs, “Do you think I’m that much of an asshole to not care about you?”
“Are.. you still Tsukki..?”
“Urusai. I just confessed to you, idiot.”
Your eyes slightly widen, and your brows knit, just like Tsukishima’s, “Wh-what..?”
The blond sighs once more, “Just go to sleep, will you? I’ll heat you some soup Yamaguchi brought over yesterday, then take some medicine, alright?”
The thought never really crossed your mind. The thought of your own roommate confessing to you on possibly the worse week of your life so far. He made it seem like, even if the world hated you and things wouldn’t go your way, He’ll be there for you, despite the circumstances.
You hugged his torso, embracing his warmth, and he did the same to you. As you drifted off to sleep, you could hear his faint words,
“I loved you this whole time.”
. . .
The wonderful memory replayed in your mind. The moment when he had said those three simple words that started your relationship. Though you were absent-minded during that time, you had remembered every single thing he said to you. That was just the start. It was really his choice to make it grow into something better.
Currently, he was out celebrating with his old volleyball team, back at high school. And here you were, baking.
You hummed lightly as you arrange the sliced strawberries around the cake, making sure most of the said pieces were symmetrical.
It takes you a little while until you finished decorating the shortcake of Tsukishima’s preference. Once you did finish, you took a step back, admiring your creation. Sighing in relief, you look at the digital clock that hung on the wall.
8:37 PM
He should get back soon.
You knew he having a good time catching up with his old team. You wished you too had come along in their day of bonding. But now, walking wasn’t the idea for a lady like you. Especially the condition you were in now. You had 2 other people to take care of, while Tsukishima was away.
Using your phone, you had made yourself occupied with the said gadget. Until you hear the small clicking from the room across, and a faint talking.
“Tadaima, (Your Name).”
“Okaeri, Kei. How was it?”
“It was nice, just wish you were there with me.”
His words made you smile lightheartedly, “Me too, love.”
“I made you something while you were gone.” You said, while he hums in response, “And what is it?”
“Cake.”
You could see whole galaxy shining deep within his eyes at the mere mention of cake. Your baked goods were the best thing that ever came into his life. Well, the third best. You turn around to bring the freshly cooled cake from the fridge, and set it on the table. Kei assists you with that and also brings out plates and forks for both of you.
He slices the cake carefully, and places the sliced pieces for you to eat.
Of course, as usual, Kei is the first to dig in.
“God, this is amazing.” He says whilst the cake in his cheek
You laugh at his childishness, “You say that every time, Kei.”
“Well it’s the truth.” He pauses for a while, “Do you think he would enjoy it?”
“Who?”
“The baby, (Your Name).”
“Oh, but of course. It’s mommy’s baking, after all.”
“Kou should appreciate him being able to eat it while he isn’t even born, thanks to you.” He stands up from his seat and crouches beside your seat. Kei takes a hold of your left hand, and he traces his fingers over the ring that rested there. He then whispers with sincerity,
“Thank you.”
You turn your body to him, careful not to bump him or the baby in your stomach, “Happy Birthday, my dear husband.”
