I’m contacting you today to ask that you oppose the “one big beautiful bill” HR1. If it passes, HR1 will cut funding from medicaid, SNAP, and student aid. This would prevent millions of americans from accessing healthcare, education, and even food. These are human rights. In addition to budget cuts, HR1 would stop medicaid from covering gender-affirming healthcare for all americans. House Republicans struck the word “minors” from this section, meaning that trans people of any age will not be able to receive healthcare critical to our survival through medicaid.

Not only would HR1 slash the budget of programs that support americans, it would also give billions of dollars to ICE to kidnap, detain, torture, and deport people without due process. Due process is a constitutional right, and ICE should not be able to take that away. For all of these reasons, I am asking that you respect the demands of your constituents and oppose HR1.

The damn Big Beautiful Bill is headed back to the House of Representatives. Supposedly people want it to get passed by this weekend.

I went to 5calls.org to get the number for my Representative. You probably already know that 5calls also gives you a script that you can follow when you call.

I used GovTrack.us to find out what my Rep voted the last time the bill was in the house. My own rep voted NO, thankfully, but there are too many reps in my state who voted YES last time.

If you're nervous about speaking to an aide, call tonight! I got my Rep's voice mail tonight.

Remind your elected representatives that they work for you.

Idk if anyone has already posted this link, but everyone needs to see the videos in it. In the video, chatgpt's analysis of that big, stupid bill the gops are voting for is read. It's not good.

I'm not normally someone who uses AI for anything, but this is one good way to make use of it. It's a tool that should work for us, but not as us. This is how it should be used.

There are other analyses of the bill. They should also be sought out and read/listened to. More analyses mean we have a better picture of what this bill is going to do to the U.S.A.

Immigrants could be forced to pay $1,000 to claim asylum -- just one way they've cooked up to fund immigration enforcement

A ban on regulation of AI for 10 years (this one is a head scratcher - we NEED to legislate to control AI)

Millions will lose their access to SNAP (food stamps) benefits

Rich people will get richer and richer; the poor will get poorer and poorer and/or die

We need to do something. Call your congress people. Email, maybe. However we can get it across. The senate MUST NOT pass this!

If you think you can do calls, try 5calls. They make it really easy. Here's another one that's easy to use - it has an interactive map.

In case you were wondering what Republicans have been up to since losing the 2020 election, it’s doubling down on voter suppression - a blatant attempt to lock in minority rule and ensure that they never lose again, even though their party and positions are getting less and less popular.

Experts predict that Republicans could take back the House in 2022 through gerrymandering alone. That has dire implications - with the House, they could unjustly impeach Joe Biden and prevent any progressive legislation from passing, among other things. In the nightmare scenario where they win back both the House and Senate, our democracy is effectively over. Not being dramatic. Republicans are openly opposed to majority rule and fair elections. They will not make the mistake of allowing everyone a free and fair election ever again if they regain power.

So what do we do?

First, support HR.1, the For the People Act, a bill that has already passed the House.

Next:

- Fight like hell to keep the House and Senate in 2022,

- Support abolishing the filibuster so Democrats can pass bills to protect voting rights, and

- Organize and volunteer.

I’m all in on our current fights - passing the $15 minimum wage and ending the filibuster - but don’t lose sight of the fact that we can’t even have those fights if Republicans get their way.

Voting rights must be our top priority in 2022 and beyond.
