New Zero Waste shop open in Prague...a self-serve Bezobalu!!

The time has arrived! It’s fantastic to see the local Bezobalu shop expand into a second location, offering even more variety in the way of dairy, eggs, soaps and detergents.  

So far their expansion from Bělehradská 96, Praha 2 (Bruselská tram stop) to Pod Kaštany 5, Praha 6 (Hradčanská metro/tram) is being called a “soft opening”, and when we asked the owner and employees for a comment, they were sure to emphasize that the current selection available is only the beginning.  They are currently (and excitedly) awaiting more inventory.    

Soon they’ll be supplying most household needs like a one-stop shop, and we’re already impressed at the selection :) 

Bulk organic coffee is a welcome aroma upon entering the minimalist shop.

To your right, a startling variety of detergents and dish soap, some made from soap nuts. 

And to your left, some farm-fresh eggs.  Free-range chicken eggs, as proudly stated by the staff. 

The new innovation of this establishment is of course, self-serve bulk.  

I’m loving the oils section.  

And a few other things to make our shopping a little less scattered and our lives less complicated :) Bamboo toothbrushes in recyclable and compostable packaging.  

and of course, treats!

Perhaps we may geek out a bit, running our camera and list of questions to every sustainable shop on town, but changing our way of shopping has led to such enlightening and warm conversations with small business entrepreneurs and their teams.  We learn more about our city, Czech and international industry, different manufacturing methods, and of course the innovative minds and sources behind the products we handle in our everyday lives.  

The owners don’t ask us to write about them, and in no way are we compensated for our shop promotions, we are only eager to share useful sources with whomever may be out there in the area and looking for a package-free or alternative way to shop.  If you see us there, we’ll definitely say hi. 

The official opening of the new Bezobalu is set for mid-September, and though there’s nothing scheduled on her Zero Waste Home world tour agenda, there’s a rumor that Béa Johnson may be in attendance?  

I’m not sure if she’s going to be in town, but it would be lovely to hear her speak about new developments in the Zero Waste/Low Waste movement, wouldn’t it? Here’s hoping!
