Was part of a Narrative Declaration art collab over on the discord, and got the chance to color this incredible lineart by @flat-neines and oough it rattled something loose in my brain. It unlocked a willingness to stretch and try new brushes and coloring, to feel painterly and spontaneous to match the beautiful organic textures of this pen work. Thank you so much, Neines!

I know we're already past the 3.4 collab but this was something that fuckin' throttled me and I wouldn't have caught it at all if I weren't besties with @/hydrachea, who is a huge fan of the Fate series- that Hoyo just dropped a big ol' Boothill death flag and then! Just moved right past it! There for a second and then gone again!! THEY KEEP COCKTEASING ME OTL

Because in Fate, when a Master summons a Servant, there's a spell that's chanted, and we get a really cool scene of the characters saying one line each:

Some of the lines were changed to better reflect hsr's lore vs Fate's...but not Boothill's. Boothill's is the only line that they changed the way they did, and in a way that was so fucking rude and unnecessary.

With the original chant, the first line is vague enough that Robin's was left completely as is, while Pom-Pom's, Aventurine's, and the trailblazer's were edited slightly to things the hsr audience would be more familiar with.

Boothill's is the only edit that was so THOROUGHLY UNNECESSARY. There was no Fate-exclusive lore in his lines! None! They could have just left it alone and it wouldn't have made a difference! They did that shit on purpose!!

Even in the Fate series, differences in the chant are allowed; plenty of Masters say it slightly differently to reflect their circumstances and personalities. And Boothill really saw a line where he was supposed to profess to represent all the good in the world, and thereby defeat all Evil in the world- and decided to completely rewrite it. He not only took out the part about being good- Boothill's lack of belief in the concept of honor and conventional morals is well-documented- but added in that he is fated to perish.

And I love that! Love that for him! Whether you abide by the characterization that Boothill plans to kill himself after killing Oswaldo Schneider or not, that's so fucking tasty! He knows that what he's doing is dangerous! He knows that this revenge quest will probably be the end of him! And he has decided he's ok with that, is banking on it, planning for it, he considers this a worthy trade off!!

They say that if you want revenge you should dig two graves, one for your enemy and one for yourself, and Boothill really heard that shit and just grabbed a shovel and got to it!!!
