His idea of the perfect Friday night was including a full cup of something warm and a good book and usually it took some convincing to drag him out of his cave. Usually. Because there were those rare whiles when he himself felt like going out and having a break from his empty apartment, where the scent of papers interlaced with the aroma of black tea could become too bothersome.
Today wallowing in the bustling night felt like the most adequate way to top out the day and attune himself for the weekend waiting just around the corner. Seungwon wasn’t a big connoisseur of multifarious liquors and drinking wasn’t necessarily his typical go-to activity, but sometimes he simply liked to give in to this feeling of temporal carelessness he could plunge into with such lightness he so often sought. Lonergan’s works could wait; his thesis wouldn’t suffer if he sacrificed one evening on his trivial pleasures. He actually needed to repeat it to himself. Seungwon always had to muster up the courage, or whatever it took, to talk himself into the most mundane things other people wouldn’t waste a single thought on. But ever since he could remember he was over-thinking absolutely everything.
Even after closing the door and heading downstairs he dealt with this moment of doubt, wondering whether he should or shouldn’t backtrack. If he weren’t to meet Wonho, he probably would return to his condo. Luckily enough, Seungwon hated not keeping his word. On top of that, he really needed a drink and a little bit of company.
Once he made it to the bar, his eyes looked for the man and it wasn’t hard to find him in the crowd. Timidly he raised his hand and waved feebly before his mouth curled up in a reserved beam. “Excuse my lateness,” he spoke with an exaggerated poise to his tone before sloppily plopping down next to Wonho. Throwing a glance at his glass, Seungwon gave him a friendly nudge, which for distant onlookers could come across as much less sympathetic, but both of them were used to that display of affection. “What you’re treating yourself to tonight, rascal?”
