One of my favorite things about my jazz band instructor is that he tells these really long, mostly irrelevant stories in the middle of practice and when we hear the words “have I told you guys about the time...” we all just kind of kick back and relax. Like the trumpets start emptying their spit valves, the rhythm section gets their phones out, the saxes change their reeds, it’s actually a really hilarious thing to watch.

and then somehow, when he’s done going off on a tangent, we’re all miraculously ready to play again.

after a year of being in my school’s jazz ensemble, they have officially added me to the band group chat

all they do is send each other memes.

I am not even remotely surprised that half the band has left the chat. We are down to 7 out of 21.
