max had to laugh. and not just laugh to himself or under his breath, but he had to do it as obnoxiously as possible. how could he not, given the fact that things had played out exactly as he imagined them. with his girlfriend busy handling their things by the side of the pool, he couldn’t help himself from giving her a little ‘accidental’ nudge, and now … she fell into the pool. accidents happen. “why would i ever do something like that?” he said with the most feigned look of innocence that he could come up with. he made his way closer to the edge of the pool, once again overdressed in his black unbuttoned silk camp collar from saint laurent, tailored cream linen trousers from brunello cucinelli, dark cartier sunglasses, and an obnoxiously large rolex around his wrist — because actually getting into the pool was the least of his intentions. but just before he could offer his hand to help his girlfriend out of the pool, he pulled back and shot her instead with a warning look because well … he knew her, “violet … don’t you dare.”
