If we compare Google Blogger and Tumblr in terms of the post types that they offer, which one will win?
Tumblr (microblogging platform and social networking site) offers 7 different post types for your blog. That’s pretty awesome, isn’t it? You can have a text post, photo post, video post, chat post, audio post, quote post and link post.
Depending on what you want to share on your Tumblr blog, all you need to do is choose the appropriate post type and you should be all set.
In contrast to that, Google Blogger (blogging platform) only offers one post type. That would be the text post.
Can Google Blogger compete with Tumblr?
If you look at it in that way, it seems like Tumblr is the clear winner, right? How could Google Blogger compete with 7 different post types when it only offers one? But is that really all there is to it? If we take a closer look, we’ll see that things aren’t as they seem.
Tumblr
Tumblr is awesome and cool for having so many different post types. So you can post or share all sorts of things on your blog. But this isn’t perfect and there are some limitations to this. For instance:
Some post types like the photo and video post don’t come with a title textbox unlike the chat and text posts
You can’t add a read more link to a chat post or access its HTML editor
You can’t easily add alt tags and captions to photos without going to the HTML post editor
The rich text post editor is missing a lot of options/buttons like code, subscript, superscript, preformatted text, etc.
And more
Google Blogger
This blogging platform offers only one post type - the text post. However, this post type does have a lot of features such as:
A title textbox so you can add titles to your posts
You can add images and videos as well
The rich text editor has a lot of options including bold, italics, underline, etc
You can add captions to images
You can easily switch between the rich text and HTML post editors
And more
So, what do you think? Which of the 2 wins this round?

On Tumblr (microblogging platform and social networking site), the default post editor where you write your articles is the rich text one.
This is pretty cool and useful but it has its limitations. There are more than a few things that you can't do on the rich text editor but that you can do on the HTML editor.
The primary example and one of the reasons why you'd want to check out and use the HTML text post editor is the fact that you can't add pictures via image URL using the rich text editor.
The rich text format only lets you add photos by uploading them from your PC to Tumblr. But what if your photograph is already online? What if you just want to add it via the image URL to save yourself the trouble of having to download and copy the pic to your computer just so you can upload it to Tumblr for your article?
Reason to use Tumblr HTML text editor
In this case, the rich text editor can't help you but the HTML one can. If you go to the HTML view of your post, you can add any pics you want via their image URLs. It's not exactly hard to do this but it can be kind of a hassle, not to mention inconvenient, to have to type the codes each and every single time you want to insert photographs into your article.
Don't you wish that the Tumblr rich text editor allowed us to add pictures via URL? I wonder why this isn't the case at all. It would be nice if Tumblr added this feature, right? What do you think?

Tumblr Tips: Using The HTML Text Post Editor To Write Your Article
How to access the Tumblr HTML text post editor?
To find the HTML part of the text post editor, click on the small gray wheel or icon that appears on the upper right side of the textbox where you're writing your article.
A box will drop-down and you will see "text editor" at the bottom of the box. Beside it, you will see the word "rich text" along with a down arrow.
If you click this arrow, you will see the option to choose the HTML format. Selecting this will bring you to the HTML version of the post you're currently working on.
Tumblr HTML text post editor tips
Before going to the HTML view, make sure that you finish everything that you need to do in the rich text format first
It's best if you don't try to switch back and forth between the editors because it's highly likely that the rich text format will remove all the HTML codes that you just added to your post. I experienced this and it was very frustrating, to say the least, since I had to add all the codes I just added all over again
Be prepared to see one giant block of text when you get to the Tumblr HTML post editor. This is actually very annoying because the entire text of your article is displayed in one huge paragraph block that can hurt your eyes especially if your post is long. All the spaces that you added in the rich format will disappear and you'll see nothing but a wall of text
Don't panic about this though. If you preview your post, you'll see that it still looks perfectly fine and has all the spaces that it initially had in the rich text editor. The reason for this is that, while the HTML editor displays all the text in one giant blob, it doesn't remove the paragraph tags (the <p></p>) and this is what's really important
With that said, you can safely add spaces to your post in HTML mode, which is great so you don't have to strain your eyes or give yourself a headache looking at one giant block of text
When you add the spaces, make sure that each of the <p> has a closing </p> to mark each new paragraph
By the way, it's also important to note that the Tumblr HTML editor doesn't care about spaces. It only considers one space so no matter how many times you press the enter key or the space bar and even if it looks like your post has a lot of spaces, if you preview your post, you'll see that the spaces you added did nothing at all. Well, that's all for now. If you need any help, feel free to ask and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
